    Job SummaryAssigned to the Construction organization as a Tanks Survey Engineer, responsible for providing field and office support to the tanks construction team. The TPC Chief reports directly to the Project Lead Surveyor (LS). The TPC interprets design drawings and specifications to determine associated commodities and equipment locations and leads a field survey team in support of the tank construction activities in the work area.Major ResponsibilitiesProvide support to the Tanks Construction TeamCoordinate the field work required with the Tanks Field EngineersSupport the survey team's implementation of the project safety, quality, and environmental programsBe responsible for the accurate layout of construction work, recordation of field data according to job specifications, and appropriate methods of performing survey activitiesPerform duties of a Party Chief on a direct-hire survey crewUtilize survey instruments in accordance with Bechtel survey procedures, including Robotic Total Station, GNSS equipment, and digital levelDevelop and maintain survey dataInterpret design drawings and specifications to determine associated commodities and equipment locationsPerform and/or check survey computations utilizing AutoCAD Civil3D software as requiredProvide civil and mechanical project completion documentation including "As‑Built" recordsPerform settlement monitoring and create reports (Monitoring Points and Horizontal Inclinometers)Perform calibration baseline checks of survey instrumentsSupport the administration of the survey work request programPerform verifications of subcontract survey work, if applicableSupport the 3D laser scanning operations, including reality captureProvide direction and training to less experienced survey team membersEducation and Experience RequirementsRequires bachelor's degree (or international equivalent) and 2-5 years of relevant experience or 6-9 years of relevant work experienceRequired Knowledge and SkillsEngineering/technical degree and at least 3 years of experience in heavy construction/industrial surveying with modern instruments and software, and at least 1 year of supervisory experience (or 9 years of experience in lieu of a degree, with at least 2 years of supervisory experience)Multi‑disciplined field engineering survey experience with tank construction associated earthwork, excavation, concrete, structural steel, mechanical, and piping installation layout and verificationKnowledge of engineering and construction methods and processes customarily acquired through specialized instruction or practical experienceKnowledge of Bechtel's "Zero Incidents" safety programKnowledge of Bechtel quality standards; must have a solid record of successful project completion with little to zero reworkKnowledge of construction survey principlesKnowledge of supervisory functions relating to industrial surveying field & office activitiesDemonstrated ability to always maintain a safe work ethic and work environmentDemonstrated ability to work in a team‑based environment, and to formulate a working relationship with survey team members, other departments, contractors, and survey functional managementInitiative-taker, highly motivated, requiring little supervision, and able to work on multiple work fronts with excellent problem‑solving abilityDisplays effective communications skills crucial to motivating team members and presenting plans in a clear and concise mannerDemonstrated experience with Trimble Robotic Total Stations, Digital Levels & GNSS survey systems, and Access field softwareProficiency with 3D survey CAD software (Civil 3D and Trimble Business Center), including the ability to perform and check digital computations for generation of survey layout data and drafting of as‑staked/as‑built data; generate DTMs and compute volumesAdditional QualificationsPrior Bechtel Survey Mega‑Project experienceWorking knowledge of Bechtel construction proceduresExperience with laser scanning hardware and software (a plus)Advanced knowledge of data downloadingIntermediate level use of Microsoft Office software, including Word, Outlook, Excel, and TeamsMust be physically capable to participate in project walkdowns, which may require extensive walking, climbing ladders or scaffolding, walking on elevated platforms, walking on uneven surfaces, and lifting up to 40 lbs without assistanceMust be adaptable to changing conditions and work under time constraints; this project may require overtime, weekends, or nights as a business need arisesTotal Rewards/BenefitsBechtel offers robust benefits designed to enable employees to thrive, advance their careers, and recharge.
