JOB SUMMARY:

The purpose of the Tanker Bay person is to transfer all edible liquid egg meeting USDA and Company specifications for final distribution. They are responsible for monitoring and documenting all tanks and tankers, ensuring all vessels are cleaned and sanitized. This position is also cross-trained in the duties and responsibilities of the inedible tanker bay, ensuring proper removal of shells and inedible product. Proper procedures must be followed, and accurate checks and records must be kept. This person must follow all company and USDA standards and ensure all tankers and vessels are monitored and documented to meet those standards.

This position has the responsibility to comply with Safety work rules at all times, as well as an obligation to reinforce Safety as a Core Value. It ensures that all policies, procedures, and activities related to Food Safety and Quality are followed and complied with uniformly, in an effort to reduce product and process variability.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

As Edible Tanker Bay Person:

  1. Coordinates with USDA all tanker cleaning and transfers of liquid egg for shipment.
  2. Checks the paperwork accompanying the tanker.
  3. Documents on the Tanker Receiving Log the date the product is received, the product being received, whether the product is raw or pasteurized, the USDA Certificate number, the person receiving the load, the company the load is received from, and the total number of pounds received.
  4. Documents and inspects the physical condition of the incoming tanker for cleanliness, temperature, and smell, and takes corrective action as needed.
  5. Takes a sample to the lab for testing.
  6. Controls the flow of egg via the computer panel and associated flow boards and piping in the old and new silo areas.
  7. Sets up transfers by hooking a sanitized unloading hose to the tail end of the tanker and unloading the product to the proper silo or tank.
  8. Ensures empty tanks and tankers are cleaned by the Clean In Place (CIP) system.
  9. Communicates with the Cooked Department regarding all edible egg transfers.
  10. Mixes liquid egg product with ingredients.
  11. Assists in coordinating tanker shipments.
  12. Controls the bulk receiving of chemicals.
  13. Ensures general good housekeeping in the area.
  14. Controls the flow of inedible egg product to the inedible tanker bay.
  15. Assists in other areas as needed, including working in the mixing room as needed.

As Inedible Tanker Bay Person:

  1. Monitors augers and machinery in the shell room, ensuring they are working properly.
  2. Monitors all chemical pumps, ensuring they are filled and working properly.
  3. Ensures general good housekeeping for the area, cleans transfer room floors and machinery, and empties bad egg barrels.
  4. Cleans tankers.
  5. Completes data entry and required paperwork for the position.
  6. Fills in all positions in the transfer room as needed.
  7. Is expected to adhere to safe work practices consistent with a VPP Star worksite, follow GMP and HACCP guidelines, maintain sanitary conditions, and ensure that product quality is maintained to meet SQF Level 3 certification. Reports to management any conditions or practices that may adversely affect food safety, food quality, or personnel safety.
  8. Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Qualifications:

JOB QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:

High school diploma or general education degree (GED) or equivalent.


LANGUAGE SKILLS:

Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos. Ability to write simple correspondence. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations.


MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:

Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent, and to draw and interpret bar graphs.


REASONING ABILITY:

Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.


LICENSES, CERTIFICATES, REGISTRATIONS:

  • Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) Certification
  • Driver’s license

OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

Specific skills and abilities required that are not included in other sections:

  1. Should have approximately 1 year of experience in the Breaking Department, with cross-training in the Tanker Bay area under close supervision. This person should have knowledge of production flow, mixing, USDA and Company standards, and the CIP system, along with the Tanker Bay area.
  2. Strong mechanical ability.
  3. Proficient reading and writing skills, with the ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  4. Strong attention to detail.
  5. Ability to work well with others and have good communication skills.
  6. Follows Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs) and Safety Regulations, and wears the proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for the area.
  7. Ability to work in a wet environment with changing temperatures, both indoors and outdoors.
  8. Ability to safely lift up to 50 lbs.
  9. Follows Lockout/Tagout and Confined Space Entry procedures.
  10. Ability to climb onto tankers using a safety harness.
  11. Ability to work safely with chemicals.
  12. Ability to obtain Powered Industrial Truck (PIT) certification.
  13. An equivalent combination of education and experience to successfully perform the essential duties.
  14. Ability to operate specific equipment or tools.
