Classification Range $16.90 - $24.00 per hour
Anticipated hiring range depending on qualifications, not to exceed $16.90.

Job Summary

The TAPP Peer Mentorship Program is committed to easing transfer students transition to CSUF and strengthening student success through community building, academic support, and resource navigation. The TAPP Peer Mentor student assistant will work to support their mentees to connect and establish a strong sense of belonging, gain familiarity with campus resources, and to develop skills and habits that will help them succeed academically

Under the general supervision of the TAPP Coordinator, The TAPP Peer Mentor student assistant will assist staff with:

1. Cultivate and foster supportive relationships with Transfer, Adult, and/or Parenting Students.

2. Participate in ongoing training related to identity, belonging, and inclusion.

3. Attend monthly All Mentor Meetings to receive training, discuss trends, progress, concerns, and questions.

4. Attend a monthly All Cohort Event

5. Attend training and events related to the role/department.

6. Coordinate and facilitate times to meet with mentees

7. Hold biweekly meetings with mentees

8. Meet with Program Coordinator 1:1 meetings (as needed)

9. Identify and refer students to campus and community resources

10. Establishes, reviews, and follows up with mentee’s goals and objectives

11. Complete interaction logs

Minimum Qualifications

Ability to learn and perform assigned work; follow oral instructions; work cooperatively with faculty, staff, and other students; communicate effectively with all levels; and read and write English at a level appropriate to the position.

Required Qualifications

  • Current student at CSUF and is enrolled/registered (fees paid) in a current regular semester as a new or continuing student.
  • Student who has completed the prior semester (has not graduated), or who is registered for the subsequent semester.
  • In good academic standing (not on academic probation, continued probation, academic dismissal).
  • Student who is authorized to work in the United States and can provide employment eligibility documents.
  • Maintain good academic standing (2.5 GPA minimum)
  • Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate effectively in one-on one settings and within groups.
  • Disciplined, reliable, and present in meetings, events, and trainings. 
  • Maintain confidentiality and respect privacy
  • Awareness and mindfulness of identity 
  • Ability to understand, establish and maintain boundaries
  • Demonstrate an ability to prioritize and manage tasks and meet deadlines
Background Check

 

A background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for this position. CSU will make a conditional offer of employment, which may be rescinded if the background check reveals disqualifying information, and/or it is discovered that the candidate knowingly withheld or falsified information. Failure to satisfactorily complete the background check may affect the continued employment of a current CSU employee who was conditionally offered the position.
