    Job Description

Tax Controversy Associate (1–3 Years) | Washington, D.C.

Our AmLaw 100 client is adding a junior associate to its Tax Controversy and Litigation group in Washington, D.C. This is a lean, high-judgment practice handling disputes that raise real statutory, procedural, and policy questions, not commodity work.

    The Role
    • Represent clients in federal tax controversies and litigation
    • Draft briefs, memoranda, and submissions in matters before the IRS, DOJ, and federal courts
    • Work closely with senior lawyers on disputes involving complex domestic and cross-border tax issues
    • Tackle issues that are often novel, technical, and unsettled

    The Profile
    • 1–3 years of tax controversy experience
    • Strong legal writing and analytical skills are non-negotiable
    • Prior experience with the IRS or DOJ, or a federal trial or appellate clerkship, is highly valued
    • Exposure to international tax or transfer pricing concepts is a plus
    • Top academic credentials expected

    Why This Role
    • Early responsibility in a nationally recognized tax litigation practice
    • Direct training from lawyers who regularly handle high-stakes federal tax disputes
    • Sophisticated matters that go well beyond routine examinations
    • Platform and compensation consistent with top-tier AmLaw firms, including a current salary range of $225,000–$310,000 plus bonus eligibility
