We are partnering with an established venture capital firm seeking an experienced Director of Tax to lead the firm’s tax function. This individual will oversee tax strategy, compliance, planning, and reporting across the firm’s investment funds, management company, general partner entities, and related structures.

About the Role

The Director of Tax will work closely with senior leadership, Finance, Legal, investment professionals, fund administrators, and external tax advisors. The ideal candidate will bring strong partnership tax experience and a background supporting venture capital, private equity, or other alternative investment funds.

Responsibilities
\n

- Oversee all tax matters for the firm’s investment funds, management company, general partner entities, and related investment vehicles
- \n
- Manage federal, state, local, and international tax compliance and reporting
- \n
- Review partnership tax returns, Schedule K-1s, tax allocations, and supporting workpapers
- \n
- Lead quarterly and annual tax planning, including estimated payments and tax projections
- \n
- Partner with external tax advisors and oversee the preparation and review of tax filings
- \n
- Advise senior leadership on tax implications related to fund formations, investments, exits, restructurings, and other transactions
- \n
- Review fund and investment structures to identify tax risks and planning opportunities
- \n
- Oversee tax matters related to carried interest, management company operations, and partner reporting
- \n
- Support investor tax reporting and respond to tax-related questions from investors and internal stakeholders
- \n
- Monitor changes in tax laws and evaluate their potential impact on the firm, its funds, and its partners
- \n
- Partner with Legal, Finance, and investment teams on new funds, special-purpose vehicles, and complex transactions
- \n
- Manage relationships with fund administrators, accounting firms, legal counsel, and other external service providers
- \n
- Strengthen tax processes, internal controls, documentation, and reporting
- \n
- Support tax audits and respond to inquiries from regulatory and tax authorities
- \n
- Assist with special projects and strategic initiatives as needed

Qualifications
\n
- \n
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Taxation, or a related field
- \n
- CPA required; Master’s degree in Taxation is a plus
- \n
- 10 or more years of relevant tax experience
- \n
- Strong partnership tax experience, including complex investment fund structures
- \n
- Experience supporting venture capital, private equity, hedge funds, or other alternative investment firms
- \n
- Combination of public accounting and in-house investment management experience preferred
- \n
- Strong understanding of fund, management company, general partner, carried interest, and investor tax matters
- \n
- Experience reviewing partnership tax returns, tax allocations, and Schedule K-1s
- \n
- Ability to evaluate complex tax issues and communicate recommendations clearly to senior leadership
- \n
- Strong project-management, organizational, and problem-solving skills
- \n
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
- \n
- High level of integrity and discretion when handling confidential information
- \n
