Position Summary
A Tax Manager schedules and assigns work, maintains budgets, and completes engagements on time and profitably. The Tax Manager reviews staff work and provides effective engagement feedback on methods for improvement and efficiency.
Tax Managers coordinate and administer tax services for significant clients and have experience preparing tax protests, rulings for clients, memoranda related to technical advice requests, written opinions on tax issues, and tax provision reviews.
They also help with staff development activities, conduct and manage research and documentation for more varied and complex tax transactions, and serve as leaders by helping others reach their full potential. Tax Managers also leverage existing engagements into new opportunities, perform major engagement tasks, and control budgets.
Responsibilities
Prepare and review various types of complex tax returns, including individuals, closely held businesses, partnerships, international tax, and estate planning.
Consult with clients to solve sophisticated problems in all areas of taxation, as required by firm clients.
Work successfully in a team environment.
Supervise staff.
Prepare tax protests.
Conduct tax research.
Sell add-on services.
Perform tax provision reviews.
Assist with the administration and development of firm policies and technologies.
Provide technical expertise to clients and staff.
Implement development strategies for firm growth.
Negotiate fees and billing.
Oversee the engagement process from start to finish.
Ensure deliverables are completed and client deadlines are met.
Maintain strong client relationships and help cultivate new clientele.
Qualifications
7+ years of quality public accounting experience preparing corporate and individual tax returns.
CPA designation.
Bachelor's degree in accounting. A Master of Science in Taxation is preferred.
Proven management and organizational skills.
Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
Ability to lead, motivate, and mentor staff.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Excellent written, verbal, communication, and client management skills.
Strong interpersonal skills to effectively interact with clients, peers, and other contacts.
Sound technical skills and business judgment.
Above-average proficiency in Excel and Word.
Established client relationships preferred.
