Tax Manager The Tax Manager is responsible for executing and advancing the company’s tax compliance and reporting processes across federal, state, and local jurisdictions. This role engages with internal finance, legal, and operational teams along with external advisors to coordinate filings, resolve tax matters, and manage regulatory obligations. This role is important because it provides accurate, timely, and well-structured tax execution that supports financial outcomes, maintains compliance, and informs business decision-making. Key Responsibilities Multi-State Tax Administration: Execute and advance compliance processes for federal, state, and local income, indirect, and business taxes, including filings, apportionment, and jurisdictional requirements. Regulatory Coordination: Coordinate with external advisors and internal stakeholders to complete filings, respond to audits and notices, and maintain alignment with federal, state, and local regulatory bodies. Technical Tax Application: Apply tax accounting and technical knowledge to translate book-to-tax differences, interpret tax positions, and resolve operational tax matters. Tax Reporting and Analysis: Manage the accumulation, analysis, and communication of tax-related data, including partner distributions and reporting for leadership and board-level discussions. Licensing and Compliance Management: Administer business licenses, tax registrations, and related compliance requirements across jurisdictions to support ongoing operations. Cross-Functional Engagement: Partner with finance, legal, operations, and external providers to gather data, execute tax processes, and resolve issues impacting compliance and reporting. Tasks & Duties Federal Tax Compliance and Reporting Coordinate with external advisors (e.g., Deloitte) to prepare and review federal income tax returns, providing required data, documentation, and analysis. Develop and maintain detailed book-to-tax reconciliation schedules, identifying timing and differences between financial and tax reporting. Analyze and track tax depreciation and other key tax adjustments impacting federal taxable income. Prepare and manage quarterly tax distribution calculations for partners, including communication of amounts and timing. Review federal filings for accuracy, completeness, and alignment with internal financial data prior to submission. State and Local Tax Compliance Prepare and file state and local income tax returns, coordinating limited external support as needed. Perform apportionment calculations, including revenue sourcing, payroll, and property allocation across jurisdictions. Track and apply state-specific tax rules, filing requirements, and compliance timelines. Manage tax credits, incentives, and grants, including tracking eligibility, utilization, and documentation. Maintain visibility into multi-state tax exposure and communicate risks or opportunities to leadership. Sales and Use Tax Administration Execute monthly sales and use tax processes, including data collection, reconciliation, and return preparation. Submit sales and use tax filings across applicable jurisdictions in accordance with required timelines. Analyze taxable transactions and resolve discrepancies related to use tax accruals and payments. Support and respond to sales and use tax audits, including documentation gathering and communication with auditors. Business Licensing and Registrations Apply for new business licenses and tax registrations required to support operations in new jurisdictions. Track license requirements and renewal timelines across all active jurisdictions. Maintain active licenses and registrations, coordinating closures when no longer required. Partner with operational and legal teams to identify licensing needs tied to new projects or locations. Audit, Notices, and Government Reporting Review and respond to federal, state, and local tax notices, coordinating with internal stakeholders and external advisors. Manage census reporting and other government-required filings tied to tax or regulatory compliance. Track audit activity, documentation requests, and resolution status across jurisdictions. Maintain organized records of filings, correspondence, and audit support documentation. Tax Data, Reporting, and Communication Compile and analyze tax data to support internal reporting, leadership updates, and board-level materials. Provide visibility into tax liabilities, cash impacts, and compliance status across jurisdictions. Support financial reporting processes by delivering tax-related inputs and analysis. Identify trends, risks, and opportunities within tax data and communicate implications to stakeholders. Cross-Functional Coordination Partner with accounting, SF&A, legal, and operations teams to gather required data for filings and reporting. Coordinate workflows and timelines across internal teams and external providers to meet filing deadlines. Translate operational activities into tax implications and required compliance actions. Support process improvements by identifying inefficiencies and implementing more effective approaches to tax execution.
