Position Overview

The Tax / Paraplanning Intern will gain direct experience supporting the Financial Planning and Advisor teams within a wealth management firm. This role is designed for students pursuing a degree in Accounting, Financial Planning, Finance, or a related field who are interested in developing practical experience in tax planning, financial planning, and client service operations.
 
The intern will assist with year-end tax planning initiatives, tax return organization and analysis, data gathering for financial plans, and leveraging tax planning software to support Advisors and Paraplanners in delivering comprehensive financial planning services.
 
This internship provides exposure to real-world client planning scenarios, financial planning software, tax planning concepts, and wealth management operations in a collaborative professional environment.

Key Responsibilities

 
Tax Planning Support
  • Assist with collecting, organizing, and reviewing client tax documentation.
  • Support tax planning preparation and tax analysis workflows using tools such as Holistiplan.
  • Assist with identifying basic financial and tax planning opportunities and preparing supporting planning materials under supervision.
       Financial Planning Support
  • Assist with gathering and maintaining client financial information within planning systems.
  • Prepare client meeting materials, follow-up tasks, and workflow tracking items.
  • Learn the firm’s financial planning process and planning philosophy.
      Professional Development & Team Collaboration
  • Shadow Advisors and Paraplanners during meetings and planning discussions.
  • Participate in internal meetings, training sessions, and operational projects.
  • Support the planning team with administrative and workflow management tasks as assigned.

Learning Objectives

As a Tax / Paraplanning Intern, the individual will:
 
  • Develop an understanding of wealth management and financial planning operations.
  • Learn how tax planning integrates into comprehensive financial planning.
  • Gain exposure to personal income tax returns and common tax planning strategies.
  • Build familiarity with CRM software systems.
  • Strengthen organizational, analytical, and communication skills.
  • Develop professional experience working within a collaborative team.
  • Gain practical experience using Holistiplan and other planning technology tools.

Qualifications

  • Pursuing a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Financial Planning, Economics, or related field.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Interest in tax planning, financial planning, or wealth management.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to oversee confidential information professionally.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Positive attitude and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite preferred.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and adaptable.
