Tax Preparer

About the Role:
Cathleen M Petersen, E.A. is looking for a detail-oriented Tax Preparer to join our team in Saratoga, CA! This is a fantastic opportunity to work alongside an Enrolled Agent in a professional, client-focused tax practice where your expertise truly makes a difference for individuals and businesses alike.  This position is available now through the April 2027 deadline with the potential for a long-term commitment.



Responsibilities:

• Prepare accurate federal and state income tax returns for individuals, businesses and trusts
• Experience with resolving IRS/various state tax notices
• Gather, review, and organize client financial documents and tax records
• Identify applicable deductions, credits, and tax strategies to optimize client outcomes
• Communicate with clients to clarify information and explain tax-related questions
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current tax laws, codes, and regulations
• Ensure compliance with IRS guidelines and filing deadlines
• Maintain confidentiality and accuracy of all client data and records

Requirements:

• Minimum of 5+ years of prior experience in complex tax preparation 
• Familiarity with federal and California state tax laws and filing requirements
• Proficiency with tax preparation software (CCH Axcess a plus)
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to accuracy
• Excellent communication and client service skills
• EA, CPA, or progress toward certification is a plus
