We are seeking a detail-oriented and experienced Tax Professional to join our team. In this role, you will be responsible for performing complex tax preparation, tax research, and tax planning with minimal supervision to ensure compliance with Hendrick Automotive Group (HAG) policies and external regulations.  This position also provides work direction and technical guidance to less experienced staff.  Performs tax planning under direct supervision and may be assigned tax in-charge responsibilities.  

Supervisory Responsibilities:  This job has no direct supervisory responsibilities.  However, due to the scope of responsibilities this position may direct the work of others.

Essential Duties include the following:

  • Ensure that the store is tax compliant with all applicable external regulations and HAG policies
  • Oversee Tax Accountants in assigning responsibility for the completion of tax work, answering questions, training, and reviewing work papers prepared by Tax Accountants.
  • Recognizes, anticipates and resolves tax issues; makes recommendations.
  • Prepare complex federal, state, local, and special tax returns for partnerships, S-corporations, C-corporations, trusts and individuals.
  • Prepare LIFO calculations for all dealerships.
  • Prepare fixed asset schedules for depreciation for all dealerships.
  • Prepare various year-end tax calculations such as computation of demo wages.
  • Respond to state and federal tax notices on behalf of our dealerships.
  • Assist in gathering information for tax audits.
  • Assist Senior Accounting Managers with any tax questions they may have.
  • Research complex federal, state and local tax issues

What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Tax, or related field.
  • 5-10 years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Strong knowledge of applicable tax law and regulations.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and Tax software.
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and organizational skills.

Attendance Expectations:

The position requires regular and predictable attendance.  Scheduled shifts may include evening hours, weekends, and holidays to meet required deadlines.

Environment Demands:

Duties are performed primarily in an office environment at the Management Office but may on occasion occur at a dealership location.  Moderate travel by air and car is required.  Position requires frequent interaction with Management Office employees, dealership management and dealership employees.

Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions and percentages.

Reasoning Ability:

Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to analyze and interpret financial statements and reports.
