Description

The Direct and Indirect Tax Lead will be responsible for leading tax compliance, mitigating tax risks, and executing tax optimization strategies. This dual role requires a deep understanding of corporate income tax (ASC 740), transfer pricing, Sales & Use Tax and Personal Property tax. You will bridge the gap between financial accounting and regulatory compliance, partnering closely with internal stakeholders and external advisors, while also mentoring the tax team and aligning tax planning with broader business goals

Key day-to-day responsibilities

Reviewing Tax Returns : Checking complex tax documents made by junior staff for errors before they are filed. Compliance Checks: Ensuring the company meets all tax deadlines to avoid penalties. Tax Strategy: Researching tax laws to help the company save money on future projects, like buying a new business. Managing Audits: Acting as the main contact if the government checks the company's taxes. They gather required paperwork and answer questions. Leading the Team: Training junior accountants, reviewing their performance, and answering their questions. Cross-Department Work: Meeting with other departments to discuss how new business choices will affect taxes

Impact of the role

Risk Protection - prevent costly fines by ensuring the company follows all local, state, and international tax laws Cash Optimization: reduce the company's "tax burden" (the amount of tax paid) by finding legal deductions, tax credits, and exemptions Audit Defense: To act as the shield for the company during government tax audits

Required qualifications

15+ years of progressive corporate tax experience, with at least 3-5 years in a managerial or senior advisory role. Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or Economics Advanced Degree like Master of Taxation, LLM in Taxation or CPA preferred Technical Skills: familiarity with Thomson Reuters One Source system, proficiency in Excel Soft Skills: leadership, Communication & Analytical thinking

Salary Range: $130,700-$176,800 a year
