    This position is located at the Jackson Environmental Field Office.

    Currently, TDEC employees are working in alternative workspaces from their home with scheduled time in their assigned office.

    Qualifications

    Education and Experience: Employee must have a high school diploma or equivalent and experience equivalent to three years of skilled full-time and construction, utility installation, agriculture, grounds maintenance or landscape management, land surveying or related work.

    Education substitution: Graduation from an accredited college or university with an associate degree, or certification from a technical school, in construction, land surveying, or other related field can be substituted on a year-to-year basis up to two years.

    Applicants for this class must: Possess a valid driver's license.

    Overview

    The Division of Stakeholder Engagement's Office of Recovered Materials (ORM) is seeking a Senior Environmental Technician to join our team in the Jackson Environmental Field Office. This position has a variety of responsibilities and offers the opportunity to work with diverse stakeholders across multiple State and Federal agencies, as well as interact with both internal and external customers.

    Responsibilities

    • Assist with Regional Plan implementation, including reviewing and approving ten-year plan updates and Annual Progress Reports to the plans.
    • Assist regions with waste reduction efforts, including recycling and marketing of collected material.
    • Collect, prepare, and disseminate information and conduct education and outreach programs to assist local governments in implementing solid waste management programs.
    • Provide technical oversight and assistance to counties and municipalities, including used oil, as needed.
    • Measure each region's progress on waste reduction and diversion and provide assistance on debris management.
    • Provide technical oversight for grants and inspections.
    • Provide oversight and work with counties on special initiatives, including Household Hazardous Waste Events and used oil support.

    TN Driver Standards

    State of Tennessee positions that may involve driving responsibilities require candidates to meet the following minimum driver qualifications:

    • A valid driver's license
    • For the past five years, the candidate's driver record must not have record of the following violations: driving under the influence (DUI), reckless driving, license suspension for moving violations, more than 4 moving violations.
