Job Title: Lead Teacher
Reports To: Principal
Terms of Employment: Permanent 10 Month Position
Nature of Work: Performs difficult professional work providing a broad range of teaching services or specific learning program assisting students to develop skills, attitudes, and knowledge needed as a foundation for future learning in accordance with each students ability using a variety of teaching and learning methods at various levels to a targeted audience and related work as apparent or assigned. Work is performed under the limited supervision of the Principal.
Qualifications and Licensure:
• All lead teachers must hold or be working toward an applicable North Carolina NC Standard Professional Educators License. • Teachers that hold an Out of State License must apply for a license with the NC Department of Public Instruction. • Teachers working toward the required education and licensure shall hold a minimum of a BABS degree from an accredited college/university.
Essential Job Functions:
• Models implements and assesses strategies related to learning, social emotional, and behavioral needs to enhance educational programming for all learners. • Follows district guidelines, regulations, and best practices to ensure a safe and age-appropriate environment that promotes learning. • Promotes effective interpersonal relations and engages in continuing professional growth activities. • Maintains student confidentiality. • Integrates research into the design of best practice. • Consults site Administrators regarding best practices for classroom and building education programs. • Identifies and selects different instructional resources, materials, and methods to meet students varying needs with fidelity. • Plans, prepares, and delivers schemes of work and lesson plans with instructional activities that facilitate active learning experiences. • Implements a schedule that meets required regulations. • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for all learning activities. • Prepares the classroom for class activities. • Instructs and monitors students in the use of learning materials and equipment. • Uses relevant technology to support instruction. • Observes and evaluates students performance and development. • Assigns and grades class work, homework, tests, and assignments. • Completes ongoing assessments and collects artifacts. • Provides appropriate feedback on work. • Prepares required reports on students and activities. • Manages student behavior in the classroom by establishing and enforcing rules and procedures. • Maintains discipline in accordance with the rules and disciplinary systems of the school and applies appropriate disciplinary measures where necessary. • Performs certain pastoral duties, including student support, counseling students with academic problems, and providing student encouragement. • Participates in extracurricular activities, such as social activities, sporting activities, clubs, and student organizations. • Participates in department and school meetings, as well as parent meetings. • Communicates necessary information regularly to students, colleagues, and parents regarding student progress and student needs. • Follows policies, procedures, standards, and rules in accordance with federal and state laws, which includes but is not limited to developing and maintaining proper and adequate records and documentation and submitting required documents and forms by established timelines. • Performs other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
Physical Requirements: If applicable, this work requires the occasional exertion of up to 10 pounds of force. Work regularly requires speaking or hearing using hands to finger, handle, or feel, and repetitive motions frequently require sitting and occasionally require standing, walking, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, reaching with hands and arms, pushing, or pulling, and lifting. Work has standard vision requirements. Vocal communication is required for expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word. Hearing is required to perceive information at normal spoken word levels. Work requires preparing and analyzing written or computer data and operating machines.
Special Requirements: If applicable, a strong background in North Carolina Course of Study, Common Core, and Essential Standards is required. Must demonstrate leadership. Must establish a respectful environment for a diverse population of students. Must work collaboratively with the families and significant adults in the lives of their students by improving communication and collaboration between the school and the home and community. Must uphold the Code of Ethics and Standards for Professional Conduct.
