Position: Teacher Aide - Clinic

Classification: Classified

Building: Massillon Intermediate & Junior High School

Hours: Monday - Friday (8:00 am - 3:30 pm; 7 hours paid, ½ hour unpaid lunch) hours may vary

Salary: $23.01 / HR

Reports to: Director of Student Services, Building Principal/Designee

JOB DESCRIPTION

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Health Care Support
  • Assist the school nurse in providing care to students who become ill or injured during the school day.
  • Administer basic first aid and emergency care as needed, following established protocols.
  • Assist in the management of chronic health conditions (e.g., asthma, diabetes) under the
  • guidance of the school nurse.
  • Monitor students for symptoms of illness and communicate concerns to the school nurse.

Record Keeping

  • Maintain accurate and confidential student health records in compliance with Ohio state
  • regulations.
  • Document student visits to the health office, including symptoms, actions taken, and outcomes.
  • Assist with the collection and organization of student health forms, immunization records, and
  • other required documentation.

Health Screenings and Programs

  • Support the school nurse in conducting routine health screenings (e.g., vision, hearing, scoliosis) and document results.
  • Assist in implementing health programs and activities, such as flu shot clinics or health

education initiatives.

Communication

  • Communicate with parents, guardians, and school staff regarding student health concerns as directed by the school nurse.
  • Participate in team meetings and collaborate with school staff to promote student health and well-being.

Administrative Support

  • Ensure that the school clinic is clean, organized, and fully stocked with necessary supplies.
  • Promote good public relations by personal appearance, attitude and conversation

Compliance and Safety

  • Adhere to all federal, state, and local regulations related to school health services, including Ohio Department of Health guidelines.
  • Participate in regular training sessions and continuing education to stay current on health and safety best practices
  • Interact in a positive manner with staff, students and parents
  • Attend meetings and in-services as required

OTHER DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as a role model for students in how to conduct themselves as citizens and as responsible, intelligent human beings
  • By example, instill in students the belief in and practice of ethical principles and democratic values
  • Assist in the school office as needed
  • Assist with special school projects
  • Chaperone field trips
  • Make school related telephone calls for teacher/school nurse
  • Perform correspondence, including reports, student records, and such other correspondence as may be required
  • Supervise general housekeeping duties
  • Respond to routine questions and request in an appropriate manner
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the teacher, office staff or Principa
  • QUALIFICATIONS:
  • High school diploma or General Education Diploma (GED) - proof required; certification as a Medical Assistant, Certified Nursing Assistant, or related field is preferred.
  • Two years of higher education; associate's degree or higher; or passing score on State Parapro Assessment
  • Must hold a valid Ohio Teacher's Aide Certificate
  • Must successfully complete drug administration program
  • Must successfully complete CPR certification
  • Must successfully complete First Aid certification
  • Must successfully complete Basic Life Support (BLS) training course
