Primary Purpose:
Provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences in the core academic subject area assigned to help them fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and social growth. Enable students to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Education/Certification: Bachelor's degree from an accredited university, as well as a valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements, active enrollment in or eligibility for an approved Texas Alternative Certification Program (ACP), or required training for subject and level assigned (e.g., Technology Applications, Trade and Industrial Education, or relevant CTE credentialing).
Demonstrated competency in Computer Maintenance and Cybersecurity is required. Relevant industry certification(s) (e.g., CompTIA A+, Network+, Security+, or Texas CTE Certification) or teaching certification preferred.
Special Knowledge/Skills: Must possess a comprehensive knowledge of computer maintenance, hardware/software troubleshooting, networking concepts, and cybersecurity principles, alongside a general knowledge of CTE curriculum, hands-on lab instruction, and industry standards. Requires the ability to instruct students and manage their behavior in both traditional and technical lab environments, supported by strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Experience: At least one year of student teaching, approved internship, or equivalent industry experience in IT/cybersecurity.
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Strategies
- Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the district's CTE curriculum program for Computer Maintenance and Cybersecurity, providing written evidence of preparation as required.
- Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and hands-on technical abilities.
- Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency (TEA), board policies, and administrative regulations.
- Plan and utilize appropriate instructional strategies, activities, materials, hardware, software, and cybersecurity lab equipment that reflect an understanding of student learning styles and needs.
- Conduct ongoing assessments of student learning styles and technical skills, using the results to plan instructional and lab activities.
- Work cooperatively with special education teachers to modify curricula as needed for special education students according to guidelines established in Individualized Education Programs (IEP).
- Collaborate with staff members and CTE advisory committees to establish instructional goals, industry alignment, objectives, and methods according to district requirements.
- Plan and supervise assignments of teacher aide(s) and volunteer(s).
Student Growth and Development
- Use hardware, software, virtualization, and networking tools to strengthen the teaching/learning process and simulate real-world cybersecurity scenarios.
- Help students analyze and improve study methods, problem-solving skills, and technical troubleshooting habits.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student achievement and technical competency through practical lab exams, industry alignment assessments, and formal/informal testing.
- Guide high school students through college-level content aligned with College Board AP standards.
- Help students develop critical thinking, advanced analytical skills, and college-readiness competencies.
- Assume responsibility for extracurricular activities as assigned, and sponsor campus-approved activities (e.g., CyberPatriot, SkillsUSA, or computer club).
- Serve as a positive role model for students and support the mission of the school district.
Classroom Management and Organization
- Create a classroom and lab environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students, ensuring safe handling of computer hardware and networks.
- Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct, student handbook, and acceptable technology use policies.
- Take all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students, IT equipment, networking materials, lab facilities, and digital privacy.
- Assist in the selection, setup, and maintenance of textbooks, computer hardware, diagnostic tools, software, and other instructional materials.
- Establish and maintain open communication by conducting conferences with parents, students, principals, and teachers.
- Maintain a professional relationship with colleagues, students, parents, and community members.
- Use effective communication skills to present technical information accurately and clearly.
Professional Growth and Development
- Participate in staff development activities and technical industry training to improve job-related skills and maintain current knowledge of cybersecurity trends.
- Keep informed of and comply with state, district, and school regulations and policies for classroom teachers.
- Compile, maintain, and file all physical and computerized reports, records, inventory logs, and other required documents.
- Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
Supervisory Responsibilities: Supervise assigned teacher aide(s).
