Primary Purpose:
Support the academic and personal success of RYSS students by providing instructional assistance under the direct supervision of a certified teacher. Assist in the preparation, delivery, and management of classroom activities that align with RYSS's commitment to educational equity and excellence.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Must meet one of the following:
- Passed a formal academic assessment
- Hold an associate's degree
- Completed two years of study at an institution of higher education
- Valid Texas Educational Aide Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to assist in teaching reading, writing, and mathematics
- Strong interpersonal skills and a passion for working with children
- Effective communication skills in English (Spanish proficiency is a plus)
Experience:
Prior experience working with children in an educational or community setting preferred
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Instructional Support
- Provide instructional support to individual students or small groups under teacher direction.
- Assist in preparing lesson materials, classroom displays, and learning centers.
- Support the administration and scoring of assessments and assignments.
- Help maintain a clean, organized, and engaging classroom environment.
- Assist with inventory and care of instructional materials and equipment.
- Maintain accurate records and assist with required documentation.
- Support substitute teachers with classroom orientation and guidance.
Student Management
- Supervise students throughout the school day, including during lunch, recess, and transitions.
- Communicate student needs or concerns to the teacher or campus leadership.
Professional Responsibilities
- Participate in RYSS professional development and training opportunities.
- Attend faculty meetings, school events, and community engagement activities as assigned.
- Follow all RYSS safety protocols and emergency procedures.
Working Conditions:
- Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office and instructional equipment, including computers and peripherals.
- Physical Demands: Moderate standing, walking, bending, and lifting (up to 15 lbs).
- Occasional kneeling, squatting, and stooping.
- Environment: Work indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions.
- Exposure to noise and frequent interruptions.
- Mental Demands: Maintain emotional control under stress. Adapt to changing student needs and classroom dynamics.
