Under the general supervision of the Teacher, the Teacher Assistant will provide support through classroom and playground supervision of children, preparation of materials for learning activities, participation and guidance in childrens learning activities, assistance in providing a safe and sanitary environment for children, regular communication with parents/guardians and maintenance of children and family records. Incumbent follows detailed instructions and procedures in accomplishing assignments.

Duties: Essential Functions

  • Assist in planning and preparation of age-appropriate activities for preschool children.
  • Assist in daily health checks of children.
  • Assist in implementation of daily curriculum.
  • Assist in routine cleaning of classroom areas as needed.
  • Obtain supplies and arrange space for a variety of activities according to lesson plan.
  • Assist in classroom, field trips, lunch and playground supervision of children, to include assisting during fire and earthquake drills.
  • Provide for safety of children and performing required care-giving activities.
  • Keep records of participant attendance and complete in-kind paperwork daily.
  • Assist in upkeep of classroom materials and rotation of materials.
  • Encourage parental involvement in the program and maintain ongoing communication with parents in a professional and respectful manner, with confidentiality in mind.
  • Assist in discussing childs developmental progress with parents during daily conversations and during home visits and parents conferences, as requested.
  • Attend training conferences/meetings with site staff and parents to keep abreast of current requirements.
  • Additional classroom duties as assigned by the Lead Teacher in conducting day-to-day site activities.
  • Regular and predictable attendance.
  • Perform other relevant duties as assigned.

Additional Responsibilities

  • Maintain a valid, unrestricted California Drivers license and ability to be insurable under CRIHBs automobile insurance.
  • Position requires occasional over night travel within CRIHBs service area.
  • Requires ability to drive up to 7 hours a day.

Qualifications: Qualifications

CRIHB recognizes that an equivalent combination of education, training, and progressively responsible leadership experience may be considered. A high school diploma or equivalent is required for all applicants.

  • One (1) year experience working with children ages 3-5.
  • Six (6) units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development preferred; OR
  • Must obtain at least 3 units in Early Childhood Education or Child Development for the semester immediately following initial employment and continue in the educational program each subsequent semester until six (6) ECE/CD units has been obtained.
  • Able to demonstrate sound and mature judgment.

It also requires the ability to work effectively with Tribal organizations, demonstrating tact, courtesy, discretion, resourcefulness, and sound judgment when handling sensitive matters.
