Primary Purpose:
To provide a well-organized smoothly functioning class environment in which students can take full advantage of the instructional program and available resource materials.
Qualifications: Education/Certification:
- High School diploma or GED
- Obtain Paraprofessional Certificate
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Ability to work well with children
- Knowledge of general office equipment
Experience:
- At least one (1) year of successful experience as a teacher assistant with primarily clerical duties or other comparable work experience
- Such other alternatives to the above qualifications as the administration might find appropriate and acceptable
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Assists the teacher in drill exercises.
- Observes student behavior and reports to teacher problems and related circumstances.
- Assists with and checks pupil''s seat work.
- Listens to children read and assists in storytelling.
- Instructs students in the proper and safe use of tools and equipment.
- Assists pupils in need of special attention.
- Corrects homework, workbooks, etc.
- Prepares instructional materials under teacher direction.
- Assists in administration of teacher made tests.
- Assists with arts and crafts activities.
- Assists with supervision of instructional games.
- Checks, marks, and corrects pupils work according to specific teacher instruction.
- Performs teacher assistant-clerical duties as needed.
- Works with small groups of students to reinforce material initially introduced by the teacher.
- May supervise children in regular classroom while teacher attends ARD meeting.
- Performs other duties as the superintendent may assign.
