Job Title: Teacher Cosmetology - CTE Center 26-27 Reports to: Campus Principal Pay Grade: Teacher Pay Scale: Dept School: Assigned Campus Wage Hour Status: Exempt Work Days: 187

Primary Purpose Create engaging hands-on learning experiences that help students develop technical and professional skills in the field of cosmetology, preparing them for industry certification, employment, and lifelong success.

As the instructor launching our brand-new cosmetology program at the College Station ISD Career and Technical Education Center, you will play a key role in building the programs foundation-developing curriculum, setting up the lab and salon environment, and recruiting students who are excited to explore careers in the beauty and wellness industry.

Qualifications

  • Professional Experience: Relevant work experience in a salon, spa, or related cosmetology setting.
  • Education or Certification: Must hold a valid Cosmetology Operator License or Class A Barber Operator License issued by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR).

  • Knowledge of cosmetology practices and current industry standards.
  • Passion for developing future professionals and leaders in the beauty industry.

Other Responsibilities

  • Work with local salons, stylists, and industry professionals to provide guest speakers, demonstrations, and mentorship opportunities.
  • Support students in developing employability and customer service skills through simulated salon experiences.
  • Manage classroom and lab budgets.
  • Maintain TDLR compliance.
  • Potential CTSO Sponsorship: SkillsUSA or local cosmetology competitions (travel may be necessary to supervise students competing at CTSO contests; stipends may be available and may vary depending on sponsor responsibilities).

Major Responsibilities and Duties

  • Develop and implement lesson plans that fulfill the requirements of the districts CTE curriculum and demonstrate written evidence of preparation as required.
  • Prepare lessons that reflect accommodations for differences in student learning styles and abilities.
  • Present subject matter according to guidelines established by the Texas Education Agency, TDLR board policies, and administrative regulations.
  • Plan and use appropriate instructional strategies, materials, and equipment for both classroom and lab instruction.
  • Conduct ongoing assessments of student progress and adjust instruction based on student needs.
  • Collaborate with special education staff to modify instruction for students with accommodations as outlined in IEPs.
  • Work with colleagues to determine instructional goals, objectives, and methods that align with district and industry standards.
  • Supervise student practice in lab settings and ensure compliance with all safety and sanitation procedures.
  • Maintain TDLR records, safety logs, and required instructional documentation.
  • Encourage student professionalism, responsibility, and teamwork.
  • Be a positive role model for students and support the mission of College Station ISD.
  • Create a classroom and lab environment conducive to learning and appropriate for the physical, social, and emotional development of students.
  • Manage student behavior in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
  • Take necessary precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Assist in selecting instructional materials, tools, and supplies for the cosmetology program.
  • Communicate regularly with parents, students, and colleagues regarding student progress and classroom activities.
  • Participate in staff development to enhance job-related skills and maintain TDLR instructional compliance.
  • Stay informed about current trends and best practices in the cosmetology and education fields.
  • Attend and participate in faculty meetings and serve on staff committees as required.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor or other administrator that are consistent with the general requirement and qualification for the position.

Supervisory Responsibilities

  • Supervise assigned teacher aides.

Equipment Used

  • Computer, printer, copier, fax machine, calculator, telephone, electronic/mobile devices, projector, video display monitor, etc.
  • CTE content-specific equipment.

Working Conditions

  • Physical Demands: Regularly sit, talk, or hear; frequently required to use hands to finger, handle, or feel; frequent repetitive hand motions; prolonged use of computer; occasionally lift and/or move up to 10-50 pounds (may be required to lift students, control behavior, move small stacks of textbooks, media equipment, desks, and other classroom equipment); frequent stooping, bending, kneeling, pushing, and pulling.
  • Mental Demands: Occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with hands and arms. Vision abilities include close vision and color vision.
  • Environmental Factors: Regularly work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress; noise level is usually moderate. The employee may spend long hours in intense concentration which requires attention to detail. There are several deadlines associated with this position which may cause significant stress. The employee must also deal with a wide variety of people on various issues.
