Position: Teacher, Dual Language- English Core Content Supervisor:Building AdministrationWork Site:Assigned school

Summary:The English Dual Language teacher will provide guidance and instructional experiences that are academically and developmentally appropriate for each student assigned to that classroom in a safe and welcoming learning environment and teach designated material in two languages. The English Dual Language teacher will be responsible for creating a dual-language classroom environment that ensures learning and personal growth of every student, establishing effective rapport with students and motivating students to develop skills, attitudes and knowledge needed to provide a good foundation for future academic studies. English Dual Language teachers will provide standards-based instruction in English in all content areas and will provide grades for each content area utilizing the 50/50 model of instruction.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Demonstrate knowledge of the content area and approved District or State curriculum.
  • Differentiate by utilizing a variety of teaching methods and resources for each area taught.
  • Use current technology for instruction.
  • Hands-on (kinesthetic) instruction whenever possible.
  • Motivate and encourage students to become independent learners.
  • Take precautions to protect students, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Communicate with and obtain feedback from students in a manner that enhances student learning and understanding.
  • Comprehend the principles of student growth, development and learning, and apply them appropriately.
  • Utilize student assessment techniques and procedures.
  • Manage the educational setting in a manner that promotes positive student behavior and a safe and healthy environment.
  • Recognize student diversity and create an atmosphere conducive to the promotion of positive student involvement and self-concept.
  • Modify assignments for special needs students.
  • Work with a team teacher as necessary.
  • Demonstrate a willingness to examine and implement change.
  • Utilize data-driven instruction
  • Work productively with colleagues, parents, and community members.
  • Work with student participation in District programs, (science fair, knowledge bowl, etc.)
  • Provide two programs yearly that allows students to demonstrate language, culture, etc.)
  • Create lesson plans that are aligned to the New Mexico State Standards and Benchmarks and Power Standards as set forth by the school district.
  • Translate lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best use the available time for instruction to actively engage students.
  • Incorporate reading and writing strategies across the curriculum.
  • Ability to work in a goal-driven environment.
  • Comply with all Board of Education policies, administrative regulations, Public Education Department guidelines and local/state/federal laws.
  • Support district and school efforts to keep CCSD safe and secure
  • Support and comply with grant, program and/or funding source requirements
  • Complete and comply with all required trainings annually
  • Adhere to NM Code of Ethical Responsibility of the Education Profession (NMAC 6.60.9.8)
  • Attend Staff Meetings and serve on committee as necessary
  • Leave adequate preparations for a substitute
  • Other duties as assigned, reasonably related to the scope of the position

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Valid New Mexico teaching license
  • NM PED endorsements (TESOL or Bilingual) as required

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Knowledge of Dinè language, culture and history preferred
  • Ability to work well with children, parents, and administrators
  • Ability to remain calm and be professional at all times
  • Ability to work wwii under pressure
  • Ability to multitask

Physical/Job Requirements:

Standing, sitting, walking, lifting, carrying up to 50 pounds, climbing, bending, reaching, kneeling, driving a vehicle, traveling long distances, writing, typing, word processing, reading, researching information, and effective communication skills.

Safety and Health:

  • Knowledge of universal hygiene precautions
  • Completed and cleared background check
  • Pass drug test if required for position
  • Knowledge and compliance with district and school safety plans
