Primary Purpose:
To support campuses in the identification of students for dyslexia intervention and provide instruction that is appropriate for the literacy needs of students identified with dyslexia.
Qualifications: Education/Certification:
- Bachelor's degree in elementary/reading
Special Knowledge/Skills:
- Specialized training in the characteristics of dyslexia, identification of dyslexia, and effective, multisensory strategies to provide instruction for students identified with dyslexia.
Experience: Major Responsibilities and Duties:
- Deliver an intensive, systematic reading program to meet the needs of dyslexic students with reading difficulties.
- Collaborate with classroom teachers to provide accommodations for students with dyslexia including adaptation of materials, behavioral management, instructional strategies, assignment alterations, and testing strategies.
- Support students in utilizing assistive technology resources.
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and the student support team in collecting student data to document dyslexic characteristics.
- Evaluate students for placement in the dyslexia program.
- Attend referral and placement meetings.
- Collect, review, and report data concerning student evaluations, program qualifications, and student progress when placed in the dyslexia program.
- Performs other duties as the principal may assign.
- Facilitates training for staff and parents as described in the state dyslexia handbook.
