Position Overview Are you passionate about helping young learners move from being passive consumers of technology to active, creative creators and critical thinkers? We are seeking a dynamic, innovative, and collaborative Elementary Digital Literacy & Computer Science (DLCS) Teacher to design and deliver engaging, hands-on instruction to students in grades K-5. In this role, you will help students build foundational skills in computational thinking, digital citizenship, safety, and basic programming, aligned directly with the Massachusetts DLCS Curriculum Framework.
Key Responsibilities
Deliver High-Quality Instruction: Teach weekly DLCS classes to students in grades K-5, introducing them to computer science concepts and digital literacy basics. Align with State Standards: Design units and daily lessons rooted in the four core strands of the Massachusetts DLCS Framework: Computing and Society (Safety, Law, Ethics, and Impact) Digital Tools and Collaboration (Digital Tools, Collaboration and Communication) Computing Systems (Computing Devices, Human-Computer Interaction, Networks, Services) Computational Thinking (Abstraction, Algorithms, Data, Modeling, and Coding) Promote Digital Citizenship: Equip students with the tools to navigate the online world safely, respectfully, and responsibly (Common Sense Media curriculum alignment preferred). Incorporate Hands-On Tech: Integrate age-appropriate physical computing and coding platforms (e.g., ScratchJr, Scratch, Blue-Bots, etc). Experience or training in Project Lead the Way preferred. Must be willing to attend training and utilize the curriculum. Support Classroom Teachers: Collaborate with grade-level teams to integrate digital literacy skills into core content areas (ELA, Math, Science, Social Studies). Foster an Inclusive Environment: Cultivate a classroom culture that encourages growth mindset, problem-solving, and persistent debugging, actively encouraging underrepresented students in STEM.
Qualifications & Requirements Licensure: Valid Massachusetts DESE Teacher License in one of the following areas: Digital Literacy/Computer Science (All Levels) (Highly Preferred) Instructional Technology (All Levels) Elementary (1-6) or Early Childhood (K-2) with a strong background in educational technology and a willingness to obtain a DLCS waiver/add-on license. Education: Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university (Master's degree preferred). Skills & Mindset: Proficiency with educational ecosystems (Google Workspace for Education, Chromebooks, iPads, and interactive displays). Deep understanding of elementary pedagogy-knowing how to make abstract concepts concrete and engaging for children. Strong classroom management skills in a high-energy, active learning environment. Clearances: Candidate must successfully clear a CORI (Criminal Offender Record Information) check and fingerprint-based national background check (SAFIS) prior to employment.
Compensation & Benefits Salary and benefits are established by the collective bargaining agreement between the School Committee and the Grafton Teachers'' Association.
