Teacher - English 1yr position (Anticipated) [Pollard Middle School Gr. 7-8] (SY26-27)

Needham Public Schools is an inclusive, dynamic community seeking an energetic, skilled Middle School English Teacher to join our team.

Under the general supervision of the English Department Chair, this teacher will be responsible for advancing students'' critical thinking, reading, writing, and speaking skills. As a Pollard Middle School educator, this teacher will work collaboratively to integrate the attributes, skills, and knowledge made explicit in the Portrait of a Needham Graduate, emphasizing the preparation of students to become socially and culturally responsive contributors.

Job Responsibilities:

Instruction & Assessment

• Teaching Load: Plan, teach, and assess 4 sections of middle school English Language Arts, delivering content in literature, language, and composition aligned with DESE standards and district curriculum guidelines.

• Rigorous & Differentiated Instruction: Design cognitively demanding, sequential assignments and use evidence-based strategies to scaffold, differentiate, and motivate diverse learners.

• Data-Informed Adjustments: Regularly assess student understanding against learning goals and take ownership of modifying instruction to ensure equitable access and mastery for all students.

• Inclusive Practices: Partner with Special Education and EL specialists to implement IEP and 504 accommodations, ensuring all students are supported.

Advisory & School Culture

• Advisory Leadership: Lead a daily student advisory section to foster a safe, supportive community, convey key school expectations and announcements, and serve as the primary point of contact for families.

• Classroom Environment: Build a productive, joyful, and inclusive learning space where active participation is valued and high standards are maintained through positive relationships.

• Family Engagement: Build proactive, respectful relationships with families to support student growth and well-being.

Professional Collaboration & Growth

• Department & Team Collaboration: Work closely with the English Department and grade-level teams to align curriculum, share practices, and analyze student outcome data.

• Professional Learning: Actively participate in department, grade-level, and district professional development opportunities.

• Other Duties: Perform related professional duties as assigned by the English Department Chair or School Principal.

• Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor''s degree

• MA DESE certification in English at the appropriate grade level

• Strong communication and interpersonal skills

• Experience working with and/or teaching high school students, and an understanding the diverse needs of students at this age

• Collaborative work ethic, training/experience in the use of instructional technology

• Commitment to inclusive pedagogy, and the potential and willingness to contribute to student life

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master''s degree

Salary is determined by education and experience, ranging from Bachelor's (Step 1) $63,217 to Doctorate (Step 14) $133,922 (This range is based on a 1.0 FTE).
