DESCRIPTION:

The Nassau BOCES Department of Language Programs and Assessment Services is seeking an English as a New Language (ENL) teacher. The position holds primary responsibilities of designing and implementing direct ENL instruction and collaborating with special education teachers to provide English language support in other content areas. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Providing direct instruction to small groups of students and/or support for content classes containing English Language Learners (ELL) students, based on CR-154 requirements

  • Advising teachers on modifying/accommodating curriculum for ELL students and sharing best practices to ensure high quality instruction

  • Creating a classroom environment where students feel safe, supported, and challenged

  • Administering New York State mandated assessments for ELL students

REQUIREMENTS:

  • New York State Education Department Certification (NYSED): Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL)

  • NYSED Certification: Special Education is preferred

  • Demonstrated collaboration and teamworking skills

  • Experience in teaching in underserved areas is preferred

  • Experience in working with students with interrupted formal education (S.I.F.E) is also preferred

  • Bilingual candidates are encouraged to apply
