POSITION: 1.0 English Teacher REPORTS TO: Building Principal

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: 1) Certificate Valid Michigan Teaching Certificate 2) Endorsement(s) BX or BA Grade Level 6-8 3) Experience Bachelor's degree in English, Education, or a related field (Master's degree preferred). Teaching certification or licensure in English Language Arts or a related subject area (if applicable).

Proven experience teaching high-achieving learners, particularly at the middle school level.

Strong understanding of literature, writing, grammar, and literary analysis, with the ability to teach advanced content to middle school students.

Experience with differentiated instruction and the ability to adjust lessons for diverse learners.

Excellent communication, collaboration, and organizational skills. Passion for fostering a love of literature and writing, and a commitment to helping gifted students achieve their full academic potential.

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The selected candidate will be responsible for providing an educational atmosphere where students have the opportunity to fulfill their potential for intellectual, emotional, physical, and psychological growth. This person will also be responsible for organizing and implementing an instructional program that will result in students achieving academic success in accordance with SPS policies, goals and objectives. The ideal candidate will design and deliver an advanced, engaging ELA curriculum tailored for high- achieving learners. This role requires expertise in differentiated instruction, technology integration, and cultivating critical thinking and creativity. The teacher will ensure alignment with Michigan state ELA standards and support the academy's mission to prepare students for success in higher education and beyond. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Design and implement an advanced, rigorous ELA curriculum aligned with Michigan K -12 Standards, tailored for gifted middle school students.
• Develop and teach comprehensive lessons spanning classic and contemporary literature, creative writing, literary analysis, grammar, and rhetoric.
• Deliver high-quality instruction that encourages students to engage deeply with complex texts and hone critical writing and communication skills.
• Apply differentiated instruction strategies and adapt resources to meet diverse learning styles, special needs, and academic backgrounds.
• Offer enrichment projects, independent studies, book clubs, and writing competitions to challenge high - achieving learners and deepen their engagement.
• Design and administer assessments to evaluate student comprehension, analytical reasoning, and writing proficiency.
