District Primary Purpose: To assist and promote La Joya ISD in implementing a rigorous curriculum/instructional program that supports student success and achievement.
Department Primary Purpose: To provide students with appropriate learning activities and experiences designed to help them fulfill of their potential for intellectual, emotional, and psychological growth and maturation which will enable them to develop competencies and skills to function successfully in society.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification: Valid Texas teaching certificate with required endorsements for subject and level assigned in
(a) Family and Consumer Science, Composite, or (b) Hospitality, Nutrition, and Food Sciences -offered by (AAFCS)American Assoc. of Family and Consumer Sciences, (c) Human Development and Family Studies,
or
(d) Trade & Industrial Education Teacher Certification
Option I
Minimum of a Bachelor's degree from accredited university and 3 years full time wage earning experience in one or more approved occupations for which instruction is offered,
Experience/Knowledge Be knowledgeable in effective schools research, principles of accreditation standards, and Texas Education Agency requirements. Additionally, be knowledgeable in the ability to make industry connections promoting service learning, cooperative education, and work base learning opportunities for the students; such as provide experiences for the students in catering and hosting events, knowledge of food preparation and the overall structure and work flow of a kitchen, in addition knowledge of culinary facilities, safety guidelines, supplies and equipment.
