**Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (TDHH)**
**Role Overview**
The Teacher for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing provides specialized instruction to students with hearing impairments in either a traditional or adapted curriculum. The role focuses on supporting academic, communication, and developmental needs, particularly for preschool and elementary-aged students, within a school-based program.
**Key Responsibilities**
+ Deliver academic instruction aligned with general or modified curriculum
+ Support deaf/hard-of-hearing students using appropriate teaching strategies
+ Utilize **ASL (American Sign Language)** and amplification technologies
+ Adapt lessons for diverse age groups, especially early childhood learners
+ Collaborate with SPED teams and program staff
+ Maintain compliance with professional standards and regulations
**Minimum Qualifications**
+ **Bachelor's Degree** (preferred)
+ **Washington State Teaching Certificate (required)**
+ **Deaf Education Endorsement (required)**
+ Knowledge of:
+ ASL
+ Amplification devices
+ Experience with deaf/hard-of-hearing students (preferred)
+ ASL proficiency certification (may be required depending on district/state)
**Additional Requirements**
+ CPR certification (if applicable)
+ TB screening (PPD or chest X-ray)
+ Health certificate (as required)
+ Must meet all federal, state, and local requirements
+ Must be at least 18 years old
**Assignment Details**
+ **Setting:** Remote or In-Person (School-based program at YSD)
+ **Schedule:** Weekdays, 37 hours/week
+ **Contract Length:** 36 weeks
+ **Start Date:** September 2, 2026
+ **Student Population:** Preschool & Elementary (multi-age flexibility required)
+ **Interview Process:** Virtual interview with SPED Director team
**Compensation**
+ **Remote Rate:** $55/hr
+ **Local In-Person Rate:** $75/hr
