TEACHER OF ENGINEERING/ ROBOTICS
PAYNE TECH

The Essex County Schools of Technology is seeking 10-month Teachers of Engineering/Robotics at Payne Tech for the 2026-27 school year.

Position Purpose
- Under the School Principal's supervision, the Engineering and Robotics Teacher will develop students' skills in engineering and robotics, emphasizing scientific methods, problem-solving, and practical applications.

Qualifications:
  • Valid New Jersey Teaching Certificate or Certificate of Eligibility
  • Demonstrated knowledge of subject specialty and effective teaching methods
  • Ability to maintain a positive learning environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills
  • Required criminal history background check and proof of U.S. citizenship or legal resident alien status
  • Must be resident of New Jersey or attain residency within one year unless exempted under the law
Performance Responsibilities:
  • Teaches pupils to use computers and computer systems (including hardware and software) to program, write software, set up functions, enter data, or process information.
  • Evaluate designs or specifications to ensure quality and interpret design or operational test results.
  • Teaches the programming of robotic equipment.
  • Test performance of electrical, electronic, mechanical, or integrated systems or equipment.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of the practical application of engineering science and technology. This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of various goods and services.
  • Demonstrates knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair, and maintenance.
  • Plans and develops instructional plans, lessons, experiments, and other support activities to present approved engineering curriculum and embeds all material recommended by district.
  • Maintains accurate records, tests, reports, etc. as required by DOE to demonstrate student performance.
  • Analyzes and uses student performance data to inform instruction.
  • Develops lesson plans and instructional materials for subject area and translates lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Conducts ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modifies instructional methods to fit individual student's needs, including students with special needs; conducts individual and small group instruction as needed.
  • Maintains familiarity with district and NJ State standardized tests for the purpose of adapting curriculum to maximize student achievement on such tests.


Additional Duties
Performs other related tasks as assigned by the principal and other central office administrators as designated by the Superintendent.

Terms of Employment
This is a full-time day position during 10 months of the year. This position is governed by the collective bargaining agreement by and between the Board of Education and the Essex County Vocational Education Association.
Compensation
2026-2027 contractual rate

The Essex County Vocational and Technical High Schools are public schools supported by County, State and Federal Funds. There are five such programs operated by the Board of Education for the Vocational Schools in the County of Essex. These include four high schools and one adult center. In addition to salary, the Board of Education offers fringe benefits to all employees. These benefits include maintenance of hospitalization insurance including Medical, Dental and Benecard Prescription Plan. The Board also maintains a $4,000 Group Life Insurance Policy for each employee.
