    ISD # 191 Job Description (TCHRTOSA) JOB TITLE: Teacher on Special Assignment (TOSA) __ Exempt (Y/N): Yes DATE: October 5, 2006 DEPARTMENT: Varies OCC NUMBER: 1450, 1451, 1483 SUPERVISOR: Varies __ SUMMARY: Performs administrative/teaching/guidance or related activities on a temporary basis by performing the following duties. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following: (other duties may be assigned) Confers with teachers, and/or students, and parents concerning educational and behavioral problems in school; disciplines according to District and state policies and laws; interprets same to staff, students, and parents. Prepares reports such as Emergency and Student/Parent Handbooks, teacher daily attendance notices, monthly enrollment figures, drop/add or schedule change notices to teachers and TIES, AE reports to Guidance and Individualized Student Services, etc. Develops and maintains school and district-wide programs; meets with staff to discuss concerns and makes recommendations based on best practice. May plan and supervise/support school student activity programs. Provides technical support and supervision to district-wide programs, as well as specialist-related services. Facilitates meetings, provide leadership and problem solve student and staff issues. Provides technical support and recommendations for due process procedures (special education) Makes staffing recommendations to meet student needs (special education) Facilitates staff meetings, plan and provide professional development. May consult with parents and community resource providers to meet student needs. May assist in low level conflict resolution, particularly harassment incidents; records incidents. May assist in low level conflict resolution, particularly program and due process disagreements (special education) Plans and conducts orientation as needed Instructs students and/or staff by providing inservices, modeling, lecturing, demonstrating, and/or using audiovisuals and other materials to supplement presentations. Prepares course objectives, curriculum, resources, and outline for staff development to meet state and school requirements. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: This position has no supervisory responsibility. QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: Bachelor's degree from four-year college or university; required course work in education. LANGUAGE SKILLS: Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public. MATHEMATICAL SKILLS: Ability to work with math concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations. REASONING ABILITY: Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables. OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES: Computer skills Ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks and solve problems Ability to maintain regular attendance Interpersonal skills, including ability to work well with others, being polite, helpful, courteous and compassionate Ability and willingness to follow District rules and policies Ability and willingness to follow directives from supervisors PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
