POSITION PURPOSE:

Provides consultation,resources,andsupporttoteachers,caregivers,providers,andparentsforpreschoolandpublic school kindergartenagedchildrenreferredduetoconcernsabouttheiremotional,social,and/orlearningdevelopmentinsupportof implementing appropriate strategies in the child’s natural environment. Designs and delivers professional development, parent education, and other training programs for teachers, providers, parents, and other professionals serving preschool and kindergarten students in Wake County.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES (KSAs)

  • Extensiveknowledgeofearlychildhoodprogramsandchilddevelopmentpractices;
  • ConsiderableknowledgeofMicrosoftOffice,specifically Word,Excel,andPowerPoint;GoogleApps;
  • Datamanagementandrecordkeepingskills;
  • Critical thinking and problem-solving skills;
  • Demonstratedleadershipandteambuildingskills;
  • Ability to communicate clearly and concisely both in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback;

  • Ability to design and deliver professional development;

EDUCATION, TRAINING, AND EXPERIENCE

  • Bachelor’sdegreefromaregionallyaccreditedcollegeoruniversityineducation,counseling,orrelatedfield;
  • Fiveyearsofexperienceinteachingand/orprovidinginterventionservicestoyoungchildren,their families,and their childcare providers.

 

CERTIFICATION AND LICENSE REQUIREMENTS

  • Must hold or be eligible for a North Carolina professional educator’s license with licensure in birth-kindergarten, elementary education, school counseling, or as a school social worker;
  • Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of North Carolina requirements.

 

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Master’sdegreefromaregionallyaccreditedcollegeoruniversityineducation,counseling,orrelatedfield;
  • Experience as a director or coordinator of a childcare facility providing services to young children, their families, and their childcare providers.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  1. Provides consultation, resources, and support to teachers, caregivers, providers, and parents for preschool-aged children referred due to concerns about their emotional, social, and/or learning development, supporting the implementation of appropriate strategies in the child’s natural environment.
  2. Designs and delivers professional development, parent education, and other training programs for teachers, providers, parents, and other professionals serving preschool students in Wake County.
  3. Collects and analyzes data to inform program effectiveness, guide decision-making, and improve services for preschool children, families, and educators.
  4. Assists with Project Enlightenment activities to promote and spread awareness concerning quality childcare, early childhood education, and positive interactions with children.
  5. Promotes school, family, and community engagement by fostering relationships with individuals, groups, and agencies within the community, expanding outreach efforts to ensure equitable access to resources and services.
  6. Utilizescurrentresearchinchilddevelopment,earlyintervention,andcommunityresources;sharesknowledgewith school system staff, parents, caregivers, and other professionals to support high-quality early learning experiences.
  7. Collaborates with other Teacher-Parent Consultants to align strategies, share insights, and strengthen overall program impact.
  8. Embeds inclusive practices into all aspects of work, ensuring that materials, messaging, and outreach efforts are accessible and reflective of the experiences of all families and educators.

WORK ENVIRONMENT/PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

Thispositionoperatesinaprofessionalofficeenvironmentandhasanoiselevelofmostlylowtomoderate.Thisroleroutinely uses standard office equipment such as computers, scanners, and copiers. The position, at times, must be able to come into direct contact with school system staff and staff members of external agencies, and the community. Work is considered light physical work, requiring the exertion of up to ten pounds of force. The work frequently requires driving a vehicle. Travel is required to schools, central service offices, and other locations both in and outside of Wake County.
