Position Summary

Hoquiam School District is seeking a dedicated and student-centered educator to teach Social Studies (Grades 7-12) and Pre-Algebra while fostering a positive, engaging, and inclusive learning environment. The successful candidate will inspire students through meaningful instruction, promote critical thinking and problem-solving skills, and prepare students to become responsible, informed citizens and lifelong learners.

This educator will collaborate with colleagues, families, and the community to support student success while embracing the Hoquiam School District Pillars of Meaningful Relationships, Engaged Learners, Adaptive Pathways, and Community Connections.

• Plan, implement, and evaluate engaging instruction aligned with Washington State Learning Standards and district curriculum in Social Studies and Pre-Algebra.

• Utilize instructional technology and evidence-based teaching practices to maximize student engagement and achievement.
• Assess student learning using a variety of formative and summative assessments and use data to guide instructional decisions.
• Provide individual and small-group instruction as appropriate to support student success.
• Foster critical thinking, collaboration, communication, and problem-solving skills through meaningful learning experiences.
• Maintain accurate student records, grades, attendance, and required documentation.

Adaptive Pathways

• Design learning experiences that accommodate varying learning styles, abilities, and interests.
• Support students in developing academic independence, perseverance, and self-advocacy skills.
• Demonstrate flexibility in instructional practices to respond to changing student needs.
• Participate in curriculum development, school improvement initiatives, and professional learning opportunities.
• Collaborate with special education staff, intervention specialists, counselors, and other support personnel to ensure equitable access to learning.

• Participate actively in school activities, staff meetings, professional learning communities, and district initiatives.
• Build partnerships with families and community organizations that enrich student learning.
• Promote civic engagement and real-world connections within the Social Studies curriculum while supporting mathematical reasoning and application through Pre-Algebra instruction.
• Support a positive school climate through participation in school improvement efforts and extracurricular activities as appropriate.
• Carry out other duties as assigned by the building principal.

Qualifications

Required

• Valid Washington State Teaching Certificate with appropriate endorsement(s) in Social Studies.
• Ability to teach Pre-Algebra coursework; mathematics endorsement or demonstrated ability to teach assigned mathematics coursework preferred.
• Knowledge of current instructional strategies, curriculum development, assessment practices, and educational technology.
• Ability to differentiate instruction to meet the needs of diverse learners.
• Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to collaborate effectively with students, families, colleagues, and administrators.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound professional judgment.
• Successful completion of Washington State Patrol and FBI background clearance.
• Valid Washington State driver's license or ability to obtain one.

Preferred

• Experience teaching middle and/or high school Social Studies and mathematics.
• Knowledge of Washington State learning standards and assessment requirements.
• Experience working with students receiving special education and intervention services.
• Experience using data to improve student achievement.
• Familiarity with Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) and inclusive instructional practices.

Physical Requirements

• The employee must be able to perform the essential functions of this position with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Occasionally lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.

• Maintain visual and auditory acuity sufficient to monitor student learning and safety.

Work Environment

Work is performed primarily in classroom and school settings with a moderate noise level. The position requires interaction with students, staff, families, and community members in a variety of educational settings and may include supervision during school activities or community-based learning experiences.

Salary:

180 Base Salary = $64,335.91 - $125,171.52

4 Professional Days = $1,429.69 - $2,781.59

Benefits: State allocation towards dental, vision, medical insurance, retirement, 12 sick leave days, 3 personal leave days.

Employment is contingent upon successful clearance of a Washington State Patrol, FBI fingerprint criminal history background check, and Sexual Misconduct background check.
