Position: Middle School Science Teacher, Grades 6-8
Contract: 184 Days - Regular Teaching Contract
Location: Wawasee Middle School
Wawasee Community School Corporation is seeking a qualified and student-centered Middle School Science Teacher for grades 6-8. The ideal candidate will create a positive, engaging, and well-structured learning environment that supports students' academic growth, critical thinking, civic understanding, and development as responsible learners and community members.
The teacher will be responsible for planning and delivering high-quality science instruction aligned to Indiana Academic Standards and the curriculum of Wawasee Community School Corporation. Instruction should be engaging, developmentally appropriate, and designed to help middle school students build knowledge, analyze information, make connections across historical and contemporary issues, and communicate their understanding effectively.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Plan and deliver standards-based science instruction for students in grades 6-8.
- Develop engaging lesson plans that incorporate hands-on laboratory activities, STEM concepts, and technology.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the diverse learning needs of all students.
- Assess student progress through formative and summative assessments and use data to inform instruction.
- Maintain accurate records of attendance, grades, and student performance.
- Establish and maintain a positive classroom environment that promotes respect, responsibility, and active learning.
- Ensure laboratory safety procedures are followed and maintain science equipment and materials.
- Collaborate with colleagues to develop curriculum, analyze student achievement data, and improve instructional practices.
- Communicate regularly with parents and guardians regarding student progress and classroom expectations.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and school-sponsored activities.
- Support school policies, procedures, and initiatives.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the principal or school administration.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in Science Education or a related field.
- Valid state teaching certification/licensure appropriate for middle school science.
- Knowledge of middle school science curriculum and instructional best practices.
- Strong classroom management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to integrate technology into classroom instruction.
- Commitment to fostering an inclusive and equitable learning environment.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous middle school teaching experience.
- Experience with inquiry-based learning, STEM education, and project-based instruction.
