Job Description / Essential Elements: Print

Description:

Provide a functional education program for students with the designation of severely handicapped encompassing basic learning skills in the area of self-care, independent living, recreation, leisure, vocational, community access, motor skills communication, social emotional (inclusive of social skills, anger management and interpersonal communication), and functional academics.

Examples of Duties:

  1. Design and implement curriculum and lesson plans for individualized and group instruction; schedule instructional periods; assess student progress.

  2. Teach subjects including math, language arts, wellness, and other functional areas.

  3. Utilize specialized equipment, hardware and software, and adaptive equipment as necessary.

  4. Participate as a member of IEP teams in developing, implementing, scheduling and attending.

  5. Maintain related records regarding individualized tasks in achieving IEP goals.

  6. Conduct pre and post assessments and prepare IEP reports and maintain inter agency and distric liaisons in support of student progress.

  7. Provide for personal needs of students including toileting, self-help, mobility, behavior, vision, and additional unique needs of each individual.

  8. Provide opportunities for integration into general education classrooms.

  9. Collaborate with parents, teachers, psychologist, specialists, and other pertinent individuals regarding progress and services for students.

  10. Perform additional related duties as assigned.

Employment Standards:

  1. Bachelor s Degree

  2. Valid California Education Specialist Credential with specialization in the area of Early Childhood in compliance with the provisions of Title 5, Administrative Code 80002-80127 and Education Code 44000-44665.

  3. Possess the folowing personal qualities:

a. Ability to meet district standards for physical and mental health

b. Evidence of good moral character

c. Satisfactory recommendations from training supervisors or other professionals who have observed the candidate s personal characteristics, scholastic achievement and job-related performance.

  1. Such alternatives to the above qualifications as the district may find appropriate and acceptable.

Supplemental Information:

Reports to: Principal

Terms: Salary, benefits and work year as provided by contract between the Board of Trustees and the designated exclusive bargaining unit. The work year is designated as 182 days.

Evaluation: The evaluation and assessment of performance of certificated personnel in this position will be conducted by the principal in accordance with the provisions of Education Code 44660-44665 and Oxnard School District Board Policy 5450.
