Position Title: (TL10) Teacher-Visual Impaired

Contract Work Year: 190 Days

Hours: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm

Reports to: Director of Special Education

Requirements

? Educational Level: Bachelor Degree

? Certification/License Required: Valid Georgia Teaching Certificate or Meet eligibility requirements for a Georgia Induction Certificate

? Acceptable criminal background check

? Ability to perform routine physical activities that are required to fulfill job responsibilities

? Professional written and oral communication skills

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Essential duties of this position are noted below. Employees in this position perform some or all of the following tasks. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Contribute to the development of the IEP, such as goals, modifications, and learning styles
  • Recommend appropriate specialized evaluations as needed, such as low vision, orientation and mobility, psychological, and adaptive PE
  • Consult with diagnosticians, classroom teachers, related service therapists, students, and parents concerning appropriate evaluations, modifications, and test administration
  • Obtain modified standardized testing materials and assist in the administration or administer the test as needed
  • Work as liaison with other agencies in vocational assessment process
  • Administer various other tests as appropriate and as required by Rome City Schools
  • Schedule time efficiently for assessment, instruction, planning, preparation of materials, travel, and conferences with relevant school and other key individuals
  • Maintains ongoing contact with parents to assist them in the development of a realistic understanding of their child's abilities, progress, and future goals
  • Maintain awareness of and compliance with federal and state regulations regarding special education.
  • Provides in-service training programs for school personnel and students and education for parents regarding the needs of the visual impaired students and adaptations, programs, and services for these students
  • Consults with the local school district personnel concerning matters pertaining to the education of students with visual impairment.
  • Maintains records of services rendered to Rome City Schools.
  • Plans for and teaches PreK students using specially designed instruction driven by IEP goals
  • Fosters a positive learning environment and monitors student progress related to IEP goals.
  • Works collaboratively and communicates effectively with students, parents, community members, administration and other system personnel.
  • Facilitates home-school communication through a variety of communication methods.
  • Ensures student safety and maintains appropriate supervision of students at all times.
  • Other duties as assigned.
