SUBJECT: SUMMER-SCHOOL MUSIC TEACHERS; UNITES Program
REPORTS TO: Office of Teaching and Learning and Performing Arts Liaison
Worcester UNITES is a district-wide beyond school hours program for student instrumentalists in grades 3-12. We are not a traditional band/orchestra program. We engage students in all aspects of the El Sistema principles of Citizen, Artist and Scholar Every day, Everywhere. This program is unique because it is student coaches teaching students. High school student coaches lead sectionals, and participate with adult staff in all leadership decisions and responsibilities. Students participate in group lessons, sectionals, ensemble rehearsals and performances. They also have fun, participating in crafts, games, competitions and team building activities.

June 24th, 25th, 26th - 8:30AM-2:30PM
ACCOUNTABILITY OBJECTIVE: These positions are accountable for the development and implementation of the Worcester Public Schools all-city performing group or after school instrumental lessons according to the Worcester Public Schools music curriculum and the Massachusetts Arts Curriculum Frameworks.
The following positions are available for after school music instruction in the Worcester Public Schools:
Strings Mentor (2) Winds Mentor (2) Rock Band Mentor (1)
PRINCIPAL RESPONSIBILITIES: 1) Participate in planning and professional learning meetings. 2) Supervise and coach student teachers (high school students) in sectional or semi-private lessons in alignment with El Sistema principles. 3) When necessary, teach sectionals and supervise activity/lunch time. 4) Prepare for, and support coaches in the directing and conducting of multi-ability orchestral rehearsals according to the Side by Side Model. 5) Coordinate all activities and concerts with the Performing Arts Liaison and site administrator. 6) Performance of other job-related duties as assigned. 7) Responsible for assuring equal educational opportunity to all individuals regardless of race, color, gender, age, marital status, religion, gender identity, national origin, sexual orientation, homelessness, or disability. 9) Prepare ,support and present a concert.
