Position Summary
Beech Grove High School is seeking a dependable, student-centered Teacher Assistant to support students enrolled in the PLATO Lab, our online credit-recovery program. The Teacher Assistant will work alongside the classroom teacher to help students remain engaged, complete assignments, recover credits, and make progress toward graduation.
The ideal applicant is patient, organized, encouraging, and comfortable helping high school students navigate online coursework. This individual must be able to build positive relationships while maintaining clear expectations for attendance, effort, behavior, and academic progress.
Essential Responsibilities
- Support students as they navigate PLATO online courses and assignments.
- Assist students with understanding directions, organizing their work, and managing their time.
- Monitor students' daily attendance, participation, course progress, and assignment completion.
- Identify students who are falling behind and provide timely encouragement and intervention.
- Help students establish daily and weekly academic goals.
- Provide individual or small-group assistance under the direction of the classroom teacher.
- Encourage students to take ownership of their learning and remain focused on credit completion.
- Maintain accurate records of student progress and communicate concerns to the classroom teacher.
- Assist with contacting students, teachers, counselors, administrators, and families when directed.
- Support classroom expectations related to behavior, attendance, technology use, and academic integrity.
- Help maintain a structured, quiet, and productive learning environment.
- Protect the confidentiality of student information.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the classroom teacher or building administration.
Qualifications
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Must meet all Beech Grove City Schools employment requirements.
- Strong communication, organization, and interpersonal skills.
- Basic computer skills and the ability to learn the PLATO online learning platform.
- Ability to work effectively with high school students who have diverse academic and behavioral needs.
- Ability to remain patient, positive, and consistent when supporting students who may have experienced previous academic difficulties.
- Ability to work collaboratively with teachers, counselors, administrators, students, and families.
Preferred Qualifications
- Previous experience working with high school students.
- Experience in a school, tutoring, mentoring, credit-recovery, or alternative-education setting.
- Experience using online learning platforms or student information systems.
- Experience providing academic support in reading, mathematics, science, or social studies.

Physical and Work Requirements
