The Department of English at Marquette University invites applications for a visiting position in first-year writing and upper-level English at the Teaching Assistant Professor rank for the 2026-27 academic year. The position is intended for one year but may be renewable depending on successful performance and availability of funding. Desired specializations include workplace writing and technical writing.

Duties and Responsibilities

The successful candidate will teach eight courses a year (four classes a semester), including sections of our innovative Foundations in Rhetoric course and upper-division courses in the instructor's area of specialization.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Earned doctorate or a terminal degree. Five years of teaching experience or other suitable professional experience.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Strong commitment to teaching first-year writing.
  • Knowledge of effective and inclusive teaching techniques and strategies.
  • Demonstrated excellence in undergraduate teaching.
