Job Summary

The teaching & learning librarian advances student learning, equity, and academic success within the community college context through inclusive, culturally responsive, and instruction-centered library services. The librarian designs, delivers, and assesses information literacy (IL) instruction across modalities, with an emphasis on supporting diverse learners, workforce and transfer pathways, and program-embedded learning. The position provides high-quality research and reference support; collaborates with faculty to integrate information literacy, academic integrity, and AI literacy into curricula; and leads the college's open education resource (OER) efforts, including OER adoption, creation, and open pedagogy in partnership with academic programs. The teaching & learning librarian also supports collection development, participates in assessment and outreach, and engages in shared governance in alignment with institutional goals for student success, retention, and equity.

Essential Functions

  • Design, deliver, and assess IL instruction in online, hybrid, and face-to-face formats using active learning strategies; create engaging digital learning objects (tutorials, videos, guides).
  • Provide equitable, student-centered reference and research support in-person and via virtual channels (chat, email, phone, video).
  • Collaborate with discipline faculty to integrate and assess information literacy outcomes at course and program levels, including contextualized instruction for workforce and transfer pathways; where applicable, teach credit-bearing or learning-community IL courses and use assessment findings, aligned with the ACRL Framework for Information Literacy, for continuous improvement.
  • Offer faculty and staff workshops, consultations, and training related to scholarly research, IL, academic integrity, AI literacy, open education, and instructional technologies.
  • Collaborate with faculty on curriculum related to academic integrity and AI literacy; this role provides instructional support and does not carry responsibility for policy enforcement.
  • Lead district-wide open education efforts in collaboration with academic faculty, including supporting OER adoption and creation within programs; consulting on open licensing, accessibility, and instructional design; and aligning OER initiatives with curriculum and equity goals.
  • Participate in collection development and management for print and electronic resources in assigned subject areas, with attention to inclusive, diverse, and curriculum-aligned collections.
  • Contribute to library web presence, discovery, and user experience (e.g., website, research guides, systems) in collaboration with colleagues.
  • Provide support for library systems as needed (including the integrated library system (ILS), discovery layer, learning management system (LMS), and electronic resource access workflows) with occasional basic to intermediate cataloging or metadata work.
  • Advance AI literacy and academic integrity in partnership with campus stakeholders; integrate emerging technologies (including generative AI) into IL instruction when pedagogically appropriate; serve as a point of contact on AI questions related to IL.
  • Serve as liaison to assigned departments; build relationships with faculty and students; engage in campus and community outreach that strengthens partnerships and promotes library resources and services.
  • Participate in department, college, and (as applicable) consortial committees and shared governance to support institutional goals for equity, student success, and retention.
  • Accurately, holistically, and effectively advise transfer students and, when appropriate, students pursuing professional/technical certificate programs.
  • Offer student-centered coaching and mentorship through clear, accessible office hours and timely, responsive communication across multiple modes.
  • Stay current with trends in librarianship, andragogy, assessment, DEI, digital accessibility, and learning technologies; pursue ongoing professional development.

Qualifications

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master's degree (MLS/MLIS/MSLS) from an ALA-accredited program, or international equivalent.
  • At least one year experience teaching or supporting information literacy and providing reference services in a community college or comparable academic or public library setting.
  • At least one year experience with culturally responsive, equity-minded practice supporting diverse learners and communities, including multilingual learners.
  • Proficiency with library research tools and discovery platforms/databases, and with instructional technologies and learning management systems.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Two plus years of professional librarian experience in an academic setting.
  • Experience assessing student learning and applying results to improve instruction and services.
  • Experience creating online learning materials (e.g., videos, tutorials, modules) and accessible, multimodal learning objects.
  • Experience with OER leadership (adoption/creation support, open licensing, copyright, repositories) and/or open pedagogy.
  • Experience with Alma/Primo or similar ILS/discovery systems; familiarity with cataloging standards (RDA, MARC) and/or metadata workflows.
  • Experience engaging students and faculty in AI literacy and academic integrity conversations; experience with emerging technologies in teaching and learning.
  • Experience serving as an academic program liaison and collaborating effectively with campus partners.
  • Experience working in a consortium environment and contributing to library/college/consortium committees.
  • Spanish language fluency.

Additional Information

Terms of Employment:

This is full-time, non-tenure-track faculty position. The salary for the position is determined by placement on the Wenatchee Valley College full-time faculty schedule (currently $76,307 to $84,774*) for a 9-month, 175-day contract). Class assignments may include day, evening and distance courses. This position is scheduled to begin fall quarter (September 2026).

Working Conditions:

  • This role is expected to be performed on-campus in Wenatchee as the standard work arrangement. Remote or hybrid work is occasional, limited, and granted only with explicit supervisor approval based on operational needs.
  • Evening and occasional weekend hours may be required to meet service and instructional needs; service may include multiple campus locations where applicable.

This position has been designated as a bargaining unit position represented by the Association for Higher Education. Faculty workload, compensation and job expectations are defined by a contract negotiated between the faculty union and the WVC Board of Trustees.
