About the Job
The Instructional Labs, part of the College of Biological Sciences, is hiring a Teaching Specialist for a 12 month role, beginning with the upcoming Summer semester.
This teaching specialist position will provide classroom teaching for General Biology lab course sections (BIOL 1009) for summer and fall semesters 2026 and spring semester 2027. They will attend weekly in-person TA training meetings, grade student coursework, and participate in minor course development. This position will require regular in-person work hours on the East Bank campus. Strong consideration will be given to someone who can work until 6pm Tuesday -Thursday.
80% - Teach four BIOL 1009 lab sections, grade student work
20% - Assist in grading student coursework from other lab sections, participate in training/meetings, serve as a substitute for other lab sections, and other duties as needed
Qualifications
Essential Qualifications: B.S. Degree in Biological Sciences or related field - masters degree preferred.. Experience with applicable or related coursework is helpful in this role.
About the Department
The College of Biological Sciences is one of the only colleges dedicated to the biological sciences in the country. Research in the college spans the breadth of the discipline from ecology to biophysics to microbiology.
The College of Biological Sciences' instructional laboratory staff provide preparative support for instructional laboratories in the Departments of Biology Teaching and Learning; Biochemistry, Molecular Biology and Biophysics; Genetics, Cell Biology and Development; Plant and Microbial Biology; Ecology, Evolution and Behavior; and Neuroscience.
Pay and Benefits
Pay Range: $50,000 - $53,000 for the year; depending on education/qualifications/experience
Time Appointment: 100% Appointment
