Amazon"s Global Real Estate and Facilities (GREF) team is seeking an innovative and experienced Sr. MEP Engineering Manager to lead the development, standardization, and optimization of mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems across Amazon"s global portfolio of labs, innovation spaces, and specialty facilities - including device prototype development labs, robotics test environments, battery testing facilities, secure spaces, and studio environments.

This role is responsible for establishing engineering standards, driving operational excellence, and implementing safe, sustainable, and resilient solutions across a diverse portfolio of specialty spaces ranging from lab suites within office buildings to standalone innovation facilities worldwide. The ideal candidate combines deep technical expertise in building systems - including hazardous materials handling, fire protection strategy, and central utility infrastructure - with strong program leadership and strategic thinking.

A strong understanding of building codes and industry standards is necessary. The ideal candidate will bring in-depth knowledge and functional application of common and localized standards, including:

  • NFPA 1, 13, 72, 101, 110
  • IBC / IFC (International Building and Fire Codes)
  • ASHRAE Standards (62.1, 90.1, 55)
  • NEC (NFPA 70) - electrical systems
  • OSHA 29 CFR 1910 - general industry safety standards
  • Applicable local/regional codes (e.g., NYC Local Law 97, Title 24 CA, EU Energy Performance of Buildings Directive)

This role works cross-functionally with Design, Construction, Environmental Health and Safety, Sustainability, Procurement, and regional Facilities teams to develop and execute global engineering initiatives that enhance workplace safety, operational efficiency, and sustainability, serving the needs of some of our most technical internal customers. This role requires someone who can navigate complex stakeholder relationships, drive data-driven decisions, and balance innovation with cost-effectiveness at a global scale.

This role requires up to 10% travel to support global program implementation across the GREF portfolio.

Key job responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain global MEP design standards and specifications for labs, innovation spaces, and specialty facilities.
  • Develop and contribute to specialty space operational guidelines, SOPs, and technical training programs.
  • Establish monitoring, metering, and equipment tracking strategies for specialty spaces, integrating with FDD platforms and CMMS/EAM systems.
  • Lead fire protection design strategy for robotics labs, battery testing environments, and hazardous materials storage.
  • Provide technical leadership to regional teams on complex MEP engineering issues, including equipment lifecycle management and system modernization.
  • Partner with sustainability teams on energy efficiency, carbon reduction, and emerging building technologies.
  • Establish performance metrics and KPIs, tracking portfolio-wide improvements through dashboards and senior leadership reporting.
  • Partner with procurement on equipment standards and vendor qualification programs; support due diligence for acquisitions and contribute to long-term MEP strategy and capital planning.

About the team

The GREF Global Engineering team drives continuous improvement for mechanical, electrical, and plumbing (MEP) systems across Amazon"s corporate office portfolio worldwide. We set design and construction standards, develop operations and maintenance guidelines, and shape long-term MEP strategy - balancing innovation, sustainability, and cost-effectiveness at global scale. Our team thrives on diverse expertise, cross-functional collaboration, and data-driven decision-making to deliver resilient, high-performing workplaces. We"re looking for technical leaders who challenge the status quo and bring fresh perspectives to complex building system challenges.

At Amazon, we don’t wait for the next big idea to present itself. We envision the shape of impossible things and then we boldly make them reality. So far, this mindset has helped us achieve some incredible things. Let’s build new systems, challenge the status quo, and design the world we want to live in. We believe the work you do here will be the best work of your life.

Wherever you are in your career exploration, Amazon likely has an opportunity for you. Our research scientists and engineers shape the future of natural language understanding with Alexa. Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
