General Summary

Plays a critical role as a part of supporting Boston Children's Hospital pediatric cancer research. Works closely within the research lab NHP team and alongside Research Study Managers, and housing veterinary team on conducting important pre-clinical immunological research in complex non-human primate models. Ensures excellent animal care and welfare.

Key Responsibilities

  • Daily health and clinical observation of research animals
  • Monitor anesthesia and obtain vitals during sedated procedures
  • Prepare and administer oral, intramuscular, and intravenous research and clinical medications/study agents
  • Biological sampling (blood draws, bone marrow aspirates)
  • Support during surgical procedures and maintaining post-operative care, and tether systems
  • Daily communication with the team regarding animal status and project progress
  • Maintaining accurate research and medical records
  • Welfare and compliance monitoring

Minumum Requirements

Education

  • A minimum of high school level of education is required. A degree (Associates, Bachelors, etc) in Biological or animal sciences is preferred.

Experience

  • A minimum of two years of husbandry and/or veterinary experience working with animals in a research or clinical setting.

Preferred requirements:

  • Experience with nonhuman primate models preferred.
  • Technical/sampling procedures in domestic small animal, NHP, or large animals.
  • Experience with inhalant and injectable anesthesia induction and monitoring.
  • Familiarity with large animal protocols, regulations, and ability to comply with IACUC requirements.

The posted pay range is Boston Children's reasonable and good-faith expectation for this pay at the time of posting.
