Overview

PRN 6:45 AM TO 7:15 PM

Vascular Access Technician performs and documents direct routine patient care under licensed provider's supervision according to hospitals guidelines.

Responsibilities

Skills

  1. Knowledge of patient care and basic human needs within life span, medical terminology, aseptic techniques, acute and chronic disease processes, standard universal precautions, and anatomic structure and human body systems

  2. Ability to recognize obvious job-related emergencies

  3. Ability to maintain confidentiality

  4. Ability to read and write in English

  5. Recognition of lethal EKG rhythms

  6. Performance of electrocardiograms

  7. Urinary catheter insertion

  8. Gastric tube insertion

  9. Phlebotomy

  10. Basic wound care

  11. Splinting of musculoskeletal injuries

  12. Automatic External Defibrillator operation

  13. Chest compressions

  14. Eye irrigation

  15. Insertion of vascular access devices with and without the use of ultrasound technology a. Triage and selection of appropriate device b. Competently assess vasculature for patency

  16. Vascular access device audits a. Site assessment b. Limb measurements c. Maintenance of tubing, securement devices, and dressings. d. Troubleshooting malfunctioning VADs

  17. Documentation of insertion and maintenance of vascular access devices

  18. Educating staff, patients, and family members on the proper use and maintenance of VADs

19.Accurate documentation of assessments and procedures in EMR Age of Patients Served: All Age Groups

Qualifications

Required Education

  • High School Diploma or GED or Vocational Training

Required Licensure/Certifications

  • Current Florida EMT or Paramedic license
  • BLS from the American Heart Association or American Red Cross
  • USGPIV and Powerglide Midline Catheter HealthStream trainings within 6 months of hire or transfer into the job

Required Experience

  • Less than one year practical clinical experience. One year preferred.
