Position Overview
The Technical Writer / Editor for Space Doctrine is responsible for ensuring the clarity, consistency, and accuracy of United States Space Force doctrine publications. This role focuses on editing and formatting doctrine, including capstone, keystone, and operational publications and handbooks. The position involves close collaboration with subject matter experts to translate complex operational and technical concepts into clear, concise, and accessible written products. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in technical writing and editing, with an ability to manage the publication lifecycle from initial draft to final release.
Key Responsibilities
Edit and format Space Force doctrine publications for clarity, grammar, style, and adherence to standards.
Collaborate with Space Force subject matter experts (SMEs) to translate complex technical and operational concepts into easily understandable language.
Manage the document lifecycle from drafting and staffing to final publication and archival.
Maintain and enforce a consistent style guide for all doctrine publications to ensure uniformity.
Process, track, and adjudicate comments on doctrine through the Task Management Tool (TMT) and other staffing systems, focusing on editorial and formatting accuracy.
Support the coordination and adjudication of staffing inputs, including the resolution of comments and the incorporation of approved changes.
Assist in the planning and execution of working groups for doctrine development, providing expertise in document structure and organization.
Develop and maintain templates for doctrine publications, white papers, briefings, and other supporting materials.
Review related Service, Joint, and allied doctrine to ensure consistency and identify areas for harmonization.
Required Qualifications
Bachelor's Degree in English, Technical Communication, Journalism, or a related field.
3–5 years of professional experience in technical writing, editing, or publications management.
Exceptional writing, editing, and proofreading skills with a strong command of English grammar and style.
Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with subject matter experts to develop clear, concise, and accurate content.
Experience managing multiple publication projects and deadlines.
Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Microsoft Word.
Desired Qualifications
Demonstrated years of service/experience managing publications within Service or Joint doctrine areas.
Experience in, or deep familiarity with, the space domain is highly desired.
Experience with military doctrine, concepts, or policy development.
Familiarity with style guides such as the Chicago Manual of Style or the Government Publishing Office (GPO) Style Manual.
Experience with publication software (e.g., Adobe Acrobat Pro, InDesign).
Experience in a military or government environment and familiarity with staffing processes.
