The Chen Lab at the University of South Florida focuses on structure-based design of small molecule inhibitors against bacterial, viral, and human proteins, and the subsequent use of these compounds in studying basic biological processes and developing novel therapeutic reagents. In addition to X-ray crystallography and molecular docking, we apply a wide range of cutting-edge molecular biology, biochemical, biophysical, and microbiology tools in our laboratory, including Cryo-EM.

(c) Six years of direct experience for a master's degree;

Minimum Qualifications that require a high school diploma are exempt from SB 1310.

  • Performs standard laboratory procedures such as protein crystallization, maintaining cell cultures requiring the use of sterile technique, and performing assays for proteins. Aid in the refinement of crystal structures and carry out molecular docking experiments.
  • Use laboratory equipment, calibrates instruments, and help maintain equipment for optimal performance/use.
  • Keeps records of the outcome of laboratory analyses and experiments. Must enter data into a notebook and may also enter data into a database.
  • Oversee the work of student assistants and other lab members such as undergraduate volunteers. Train these students on lab protocols and experimental analysis.
  • Prepares graphs, graphs, charts and tables from experimental results for inclusion in presentations and publications. Give presentations on their research at lab meetings.
