Job Purpose and Primary Objectives:

Benchmark Space Systems, a leader in small satellite propulsion systems and in-space mobility services, is looking for a Technical Buyer to foster business relationships with strategic vendors/partners.

In this role you will execute on tactical quoting and purchasing activities, monitor performance (inventory, quality and delivery), communicate with internal stakeholders on vendor milestones and deliverables.

This is an on-site role at our headquarters in Burlington, Vermont.

Measurements of Success/Primary Job Responsibilities:

At its core, Benchmark is an entrepreneurial, fast paced organization. In this environment, we need all employees to solve problems, not be afraid to ask questions and be able to work with and help colleagues in different departments and positions by digging in and working on other tasks as needed/assigned depending on business needs. With that said, there are primary job responsibilities and measurements of success for this position, which are:

  • Evaluate purchase requisitions with supply chain management to determine quantities and delivery dates as determined by program requirements.
  • Execute on required quoting efforts including volume price breaks and communicating lead time expectations with potential suppliers.
  • Maintain a quote archive that is organized and searchable for future reference on pricing and lead time.
  • Manage relationships with key suppliers to maintain quality of goods, timely delivery, and compliance to terms of contracts.
  • Monitors supplier performance and prepares reports and other records pertaining to the items or services purchased, cost, delivery, product or service performance, supplier performance and/or inventories, as applicable.
  • Completes accurate and timely data entry of purchase orders.
  • Expedites and coordinates critical deliveries, emergency requisitions, and quotes.
  • Acts an interface between Supplier and internal departments regarding orders.
  • Tracks and communicates order status.
  • Coordinates with Operations Support Specialist to solve material discrepancies.
  • Works closely with the Accounting to solve invoice discrepancies.
  • Obtains RMA's for return products and generate shippers.
  • Identify shortages and communicate risks to stakeholders in a timely manner.

Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in supply chain management, engineering, business, or a related field.
  • 2-5 years of experience in procurement.
  • Demonstrable experience in negotiating prices and terms and conditions.
  • Knowledge of market research, data analysis and purchasing best practices.
  • Working knowledge of MS Office.
  • U.S. Person Requirement: Due to the nature of the work and access to export-controlled information, applicants must qualify as a U.S. Person under U.S. export control laws. Visa sponsorship is not available for this position now or in the future.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions:

  • Ability to lift, carry, and move up to 50 lbs. occasionally (e.g., boxes, components, facility supplies).
  • Regularly required to stand, walk, bend, reach, and kneel.
  • Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a computer or completing documentation work.
