We are seeking an experienced Technical Buyer PII with a background in the steel or metallurgical industry to lead the strategy and execution of procurement activities for materials, critical spare parts, industrial equipment, and specialized technical services to join our team in Ashland, KY.

This role is essential to ensuring the timely supply of mechanical components, electrical systems, automation equipment, steel structures, and technical services associated with steel plant projects and maintenance operations, while maintaining cost competitiveness, technical compliance, and operational continuity. The Technical Buyer PII will purchase machine components or subassemblies. The main activities are purchasing, managing requests for quotations, researching and selecting new suppliers where necessary, analyzing and negotiating proposals, and finalizing commercial agreements in accordance with the company's strategic objectives of cost, time, and quality.

Tasks and Day-to-Day activities in the role:

  • Manage the full procurement cycle for industrial equipment, critical spare parts, consumables, and specialized technical services.
  • Develop sourcing strategies for steel plant projects, shutdowns, and major maintenance activities.
  • Negotiate technical and commercial contracts with machinery manufacturers, specialized workshops, system integrators, and international suppliers.
  • Review and analyze technical specifications (drawings, datasheets, BOMs) in coordination with Engineering and Maintenance teams and sending technical specifications and drawings to suppliers.
  • Evaluate and develop strategic suppliers within the steel industry, ensuring quality, compliance, and technical support.
  • Manage domestic and international procurement of components such as industrial bearings, motors, gearboxes, hydraulic systems, instrumentation, and automation equipment.
  • Coordinate with Logistics for the importation of heavy equipment and oversized cargo.
  • Monitor KPIs focused on cost savings, on-time delivery for projects, downtime reduction, and optimization of critical spare parts inventory.
  • Identify supply chain risks (steel market volatility, industrial components, manufacturing lead times) and develop mitigation plans.
  • Participate in technical bidding processes and techno-commercial proposal evaluations.
  • Utilization of company tools such as ERP, Easybuy and other collaboration tools.
  • High school degree or bachelors degree in mechanical field
  • Minimum 5 years of procurement experience within the steel, metallurgical, or heavy manufacturing industry.
  • Experience in purchasing industrial machinery, critical spare parts, and specialized technical services.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical drawings and industrial specifications.
  • Ability to understand the necessary machining and related value, for the items under procurement
  • Experience negotiating with national and international industrial suppliers.
