PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Serve as the technical expert for BOBST sheet-cutting operations by maximizing machine reliability, throughput, quality, and operator capability while driving continuous improvement and standardization.
SECONDARY RESPONSIBILITY:
Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for all BOBST sheet cutters.
Lead troubleshooting of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, and process-related issues.
Identify and eliminate chronic downtime losses.
Monitor machine efficiency, uptime, speed, waste, and quality trends.
Support maintenance in root cause analysis and corrective actions.
Validate machine settings and operating parameters.
Establish and maintain optimum operating conditions for:
Knife settings
Feed systems
Registration
Stripping systems
Delivery systems
Tooling setup
Reduce make-ready times through standardized setup procedures.
Develop best-known methods for recurring jobs.
Optimize machine sequencing and workflow.
Train operators and assistants on:
Standard operating procedures
Machine adjustments
Troubleshooting techniques
Quality requirements
Preventive care
Certify operators against defined skill matrices.
Conduct hands-on coaching during production shifts.
Develop cross-training plans.
Own technical aspects of sheet cutter quality performance.
Investigate:
Out-of-square sheets
Trim variations
Burrs
Registration issues
Dimensional defects
Establish corrective actions.
Work with Quality and Production teams to prevent recurrence.
Lead kaizen activities focused on:
Downtime reduction
Waste reduction
Throughput improvement
Changeover reduction
Use data to identify improvement opportunities.
Implement standard work and visual controls.
Serve as first escalation point for:
Complex machine issues
Process failures
Repeated quality concerns
Production bottlenecks
Coordinate resources from Maintenance, Engineering, Quality, and Operations
Assist Maintenance with PM development.
Review recurring failures.
Recommend equipment upgrades.
Participate in shutdown planning.
Maintain:
Setup standards
Troubleshooting guides
Best practices
Machine settings database
Training records
Ensure documentation is current and accessible.
Promote safe machine operation.
Audit guarding and safety systems.
Support investigations of near misses and incidents.
Reinforce lockout/tagout compliance.
Analyze:
OEE
Downtime trends
Setup losses
Waste metrics
Throughput performance
Present findings during Tier 2 and Tier 3 reviews.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three months related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Must have basic computer skills and possess ability to utilize software. Eight (8) years practical work Experience on Sheet Fed Equipment
LANGUAGE SKILLS: Must have the ability to read and understand documents, letters, etc. and write legibly in English. Must be able to understand and speak clearly, communicate, and understand directions in English as needed.
