Manage the technical resources to support and review the re-engineering of manufacturing equipment and processes utilizing Lean manufacturing tools and techniques and achieve operational excellence. Assures the development and implementation of comprehensive quality and engineering programs for the Coated Abrasives facility in Stephenville, Texas in accordance with customer requirements, and compliance with international standards such as ISO, OSHA, and ANSI. The Technical Manager will direct the improvements in process and quality to maximize output consistency and reduce waste and costs to meet the plant goals and objectives.


One of the Technical Manager’s primary functions is to provide the creative and project leadership for the plant modernization objectives. In this role, they utilize an extensive knowledge of coated abrasive manufacturing equipment, processes, production costs, alternative manufacturing technologies and market requirements to creatively identify areas where re-engineering or the application of new technologies can result in significant improvement in cost or quality.


The Technical Manager must integrate a variety of information from production performance, process engineering, R&D, marketing, financial statistics to identify where the potential for improvement exists. If new technologies are involved, the Technical Manger must be able to assess the technical and financial risks and effectively communicate and coordinate support amongst the functional areas, both internal and external. The result is a rolling 2-3 year modernization roadmap that forms the basis for long-term capital investments and manufacturing cost/quality improvements.


The Technical Manager must ensure the technical viability and that performance payback objectives are met. Excellent analytical, written and verbal communication skills are required to communicate the objectives and obtain the necessary approvals. Once approved, the Technical Manager provides project management direction for the department and the team’s project. For smaller projects, they may delegate this responsibility to staff personnel.


Essential Functions:


+ Engineering, Quality and Process Control -

+ Provides leadership to the group in basic and advanced project and diagnostic tools such as PFMEA, SPC, DOEs, Cause and Effect charts/Pareto, and DMAIC techniques among others.

+ Makes data driven decisions to focus efforts for maximum impact.

+ Drive continuous improvement in manufacturing performance and customer satisfaction through the aggressive approach to World Class Manufacturing.

+ Help drive continual process control and yield improvement activities for products while reducing warranty claims and customer complaints.

+ Develops and leads the efforts to maintain ISO 9001 and customer certifications

+ Ensures that these certification requirements are always met while streamlining the quality system for optimum efficiency.

+ Manage non-conformance and calibration programs.


Qualifications:


+ Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering – Mechanical, Industrial, Systems or similar preferred

+ Master's Degree in Business Administration preferred

+ Knowledge of OSHA requirements, must have a strong commitment to safety practices and principles

+ Experience in Six Sigma and Lean manufacturing

+ Proficient computer skills including knowledge of all Microsoft office applications

+ Knowledge and experience in project management, ability to manage multiple projects

+ Knowledge and ability to manage multiple contractors within Saint-Gobain guidelines

+ Strong mechanical aptitude and facility problem troubleshooting

+ 10 + years experience in facilities management/supervision in manufacturing environment

+ 5 + years experience in continued improvement methodologies
