Amazon's Legal Operations organization is looking for a Technical Program Manager to lead eDiscovery program delivery at a global scale. In this role, you will own the technology roadmap for eDiscovery, drive cross-functional programs across engineering, legal, and vendor teams, and stand up AI-powered capabilities that transform how Amazon manages litigation support. You will report to the Head of eDiscovery and lead programs spanning the full eDiscovery lifecycle-from data collection through production-while building the systems and vendor partnerships that reduce cost and accelerate outcomes.

The Legal Operations team is data-driven and systems-oriented- we measure what matters, automate what we can, and build for scale. This role requires someone who can write a technical design document, run an AI pilot, negotiate a vendor SOW, and present results to VP-level stakeholders in the same week. You will operate with high autonomy in ambiguous environments, working across engineering, legal, and vendor teams to deliver without direct authority over resources. This role involves access to confidential legal information and requires a high level of professionalism, integrity, and discretion.

Key job responsibilities

- Program Ownership & Delivery: Own the eDiscovery Transformation Program end-to-end: define the roadmap, set milestones, manage cross-team dependencies, proactively identify risks, and drive resolution or escalation with appropriate judgment. Define success metrics for program initiatives and build reporting frameworks that give leadership visibility into matter health, vendor performance, and operational efficiency.

- Technology & Architecture: Define technical requirements and drive design reviews for vendor integrations, data pipelines, and system interoperability between eDiscovery platforms and internal tools. Collaborate with IT, Security, and Microsoft 365/Purview teams on legal hold automation, custodian data collection, and preservation workflows. Drive process automation by identifying opportunities to eliminate manual steps through scripting, API orchestration, or platform configuration.

- AI & Tool Strategy: Lead the evaluation, piloting, and procurement of AI-powered tools (TAR, generative AI, NLP classification) for document review and legal analytics-defining evaluation frameworks, success metrics, and defensibility standards, and building business cases that quantify ROI.

- Vendor & Standards: Own the vendor strategy: manage the preferred partner program, drive RFP processes, negotiate rate cards and SLAs, conduct performance reviews, and define quality standards for ESI processing, review, and production workflows.

- Stakeholder Alignment & Communication: Drive alignment across legal, engineering, and vendor stakeholders with competing priorities; author program narratives and business cases for senior leadership. Mentor team members and contribute to hiring, interview processes, and talent development within the organization.

A day in the life

Your morning might be a design review for a vendor API integration you spec'd. By mid-morning you're configuring an AI pilot-tuning recall thresholds on a document review model. After lunch you're drafting a business case for a platform migration, pulling cost and throughput data into a narrative for senior leadership. Late afternoon, a legal hold workflow breaks and you're coordinating the fix across IT and compliance before a preservation deadline. No two days look the same-some weeks are technical delivery, others are vendor negotiations and program roadmaps. You connect the technical reality to the business outcome, and you own both.

Fulfillment center associates around the globe send customer orders from our warehouses to doorsteps. Product managers set feature requirements, strategy, and marketing messages for brand new customer experiences. And as we grow, we’ll add jobs that haven’t been invented yet.

It’s Always Day 1
At Amazon, it’s always “Day 1.” Now, what does this mean and why does it matter? It means that our approach remains the same as it was on Amazon’s very first day – to make smart, fast decisions, stay nimble, invent, and stay focused on delighting our customers. In our 2016 shareholder letter, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos shared his thoughts on how to keep up a Day 1 company mindset. “Staying in Day 1 requires you to experiment patiently, accept failures, plant seeds, protect saplings, and double down when you see customer delight,” he wrote. “A customer-obsessed culture best creates the conditions where all of that can happen.” You can read the full letter here

Our Leadership Principles
Our Leadership Principles help us keep a Day 1 mentality. They aren’t just a pretty inspirational wall hanging. Amazonians use them, every day, whether they’re discussing ideas for new projects, deciding on the best solution for a customer’s problem, or interviewing candidates.
