Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor"s degree in a technical field, or equivalent practical experience.

  • 2 years of experience in program management.

  • Experience performing technical due diligence for energy projects or venture capital/private equity investments.

  • Experience in technology assessment, Research and Development (R&D) management, or technical consulting within the energy sector.

  • Experience with power systems and the technical requirements for integrating advanced energy technologies into the grid.

Preferred qualifications:

  • 2 years of experience managing cross-functional or cross-team projects.
  • Direct experience in the development or commercialization of advanced energy technologies (e.g., batteries, novel energy storage technologies, advanced reactors, or next-gen geothermal).
  • Experience in electrical integration, battery storage technologies, or general energy storage technologies.
  • Experience translating complex technical data into strategic insights for executive-level decision-making.

About the job

As a Technical Program Manager at Google, you'll use your technical expertise to lead complex, multi-disciplinary projects from start to finish. You'll work with stakeholders to plan requirements, identify risks, manage project schedules, and communicate clearly with cross-functional partners across the company. You"re equally comfortable explaining your team"s analyses and recommendations to executives as you are discussing the technical tradeoffs in product development with engineers.

The Google Advanced Energy Technologies team is seeking a highly technical and strategic Technical Program Manager to perform technical diligence and roadmapping and identify opportunities for new energy technology pilots and partnerships. You will be responsible for monitoring technical milestones with both current and prospective partners to assess the viability and scalability of emerging solutions, ultimately shaping and evolving high-impact commercial partnerships.

Individual pay is determined by factors including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training.

US: $138000 - $198000 (USD) + 15% bonus target + equity + benefits

Responsibilities

  • Conduct deep-dive evaluations of emerging technologies, assessing Technology Readiness Levels (TRL), performance claims, manufacturing scalability, and potential for cost reduction.
  • Contribute to technology roadmaps that guide Google"s future energy portfolio.
  • Manage technical assessments of specific project opportunities, evaluating engineering designs, technical milestones, project delivery plans, and execution risks.
  • Partner closely with the Advanced Energy Tech commercial team to provide the technical foundation for complex agreements, ensuring that partnership structures and performance guarantees are technically sound and evolve with first-of-a-kind (FOAK) project delivery milestones.
  • Monitor ongoing technical milestones with both current and prospective partners to assess the viability and scalability of emerging solutions.
